The Trouble with Love Chapter 9

Jun 10, 2010 19:38

In the hospital, Chloe was surprised to see George as he walked in with his partner, and he was just as surprised to see her.

“Mr. Queen? My name is Detective George Dean...”

Oliver nodded. “Yeah, we met a few weeks ago; it’s good to see you again.”

Barry Dune just raised his eyebrows as he looked at George. “And I’m Detective Barry Dune. We were hoping we could speak to you and your son about what happened at the museum.”

Connor who was standing next to Chloe gripped her hand and shook his head. “I don’t want to talk about it.”

Oliver just looked at the detectives from his bed. “Do you mind if we speak without Connor? I’d rather that he doesn’t have to hear what I have to say.”

Barry just nodded. “That won’t be a problem, Mr. Queen. But we still need to talk to your son.”

Connor looked back at Oliver, and knew that look on his dad’s face. He was going to make him talk. He returned his attention to Chloe. “I don’t want to talk to them.”

Chloe looked at Oliver, as if she was waiting for a signal, which she got in a form of a nod.  Chloe brushed the blond locks away from his face and gently held his face in her hands. “They just want to find out who hurt you and your dad.” Chloe said but Connor still shook his head.

She smiled as she bent lower so she can look Connor straight in the eye. “I’ll stay with you, okay? They just need to ask a few questions. If you want to stop, then we’ll stop. Okay?”

“You’ll stay with dad and me?” He whispered and Chloe nodded. “Okay.”

“Should we wait outside?” Chloe asked as she looked at George.

“We might ask Connor some questions first, if that’s okay with you, Mr. Queen?”

“It’s fine.” He replied and Connor walked over next to his dad and sat on the chair beside him. Chloe followed, and sat down next to Connor.

Barry took his notepad out as he stared at the trio in front of him. If Oliver Queen wasn’t famous, he would’ve looked at the three of them and assumed they were a family. He looked briefly at George from the corner of his eye that didn’t seem to mind that the woman he was interested in was in close contact with a handsome, young and single billionaire.

“Can you tell us what happened that day, Connor?”

Connor looked at Oliver and Chloe before he spoke. “We went to the museum for an excursion.”

Barry nodded as he looked over his notes. “You went with your whole class, right?”

Connor nodded and gripped Chloe’s hands tighter. Barry and George didn’t miss the gesture, and they knew for sure the kid knew something. While it was understandable that the kid was scared, they have both dealt with witnesses long enough to know some things were being kept from them.

“What happened next?” George asked gently and Connor tapped his feet before he replied.

“We were about to leave when these guys came with masks on. They shouted at everyone and told us to stay down.”

Barry nodded. “Did they have guns?”

“They all had one. The bigger one had a shot gun. The other two just had smaller guns.”

“Was there anything you noticed about them?” George asked as he looked directly at Connor, and there was a look of fear and apprehension in the boy’s eyes.

Connor didn’t know if he should tell the men what he’d heard.  “One of them had a tattoo.” He blurted out instead, unable to decide.

“Where did you see it?” George asked and Connor pointed to his arm. “Did you see what it looked like?”

“It looked like that symbol, from that Zombie movie... when the monkey got away and everyone got infected...”

“You watched that movie?” Oliver asked, livid that his son saw a movie that terrifying. “With who?”

“Oliver!” Chloe hissed as she gave him a look. Though she was going to have to hunt Bart down and hit him for showing that movie to Connor.

Barry looked at George confused and George sighed. “The one when the activists released a monkey and this guy woke up from a coma...”

“Got it.” Barry replied as he wrote it down his notebook. “Anything else you can tell us about it?”

“There was a red dot in the middle. Everything else was black.”

“Do you remember how big it was?”

Connor looked around him and his eyes settled on their badges that were displayed. “It was almost as big as your badges.”

George and Barry just nodded as they continued to write. “Is there anything else?”

Connor quickly shook his head and the two detectives shared a look before George smiled at Connor.

“Thank you, Connor. You’ve been very helpful.”

“Are you ready, Mr. Queen?” Barry asked as Chloe stood up with Connor. “Thanks, Connor.”

Connor just nodded and looked at his dad. “Can Aunt Chloe take me to Pizza Palace?”

“Don’t eat too much.” Oliver said before Connor nodded and walked away with Chloe.
When his son and Chloe left the room, Oliver looked at the detectives. “Where would you like me to start?"
