So, this past Sunday, I did in fact make the hearts of palm and radish salad, minus the shrimp, and it is very very good. It is also very mayonnaise heavy - I think that next time, I'll cut down on the mayonnaise by quite a bit and up the horseradish. I'm working on that whole once-a-week cooking thing this week, to see if I can incorporate more of that into our lives. I don't want to stop cooking every night, but having breakfasts and lunches ready to go at the beginning of the week, and some sides, would make life a lot easier, and make it more likely that I'd eat more vegetables ( Read more... )

Apparently, so far January is all about food. Breakfast this morning is the last of the garlic mashed cauliflower, a 5:10 egg, and some of this aparagus artichoke salad (a new recipe, and really good), with a little cheddar on top, and it is marvelous. Omnoms.

We went and saw Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocal this afternoon. That was a lot of fun (if bad for someone with vertigo). And on top of it, there was a woman of color in a strong role who kicked ass. Who kicked off her high heels before kicking ass. Who changed into sensible clothes to go kick ass. I'm going to go swoon a bit now. :)

I was skeptical, but mashed "potatoes" with cauliflower? Really effing good. Though I might have overdone the garlic, heh. I used homemade ghee (which I'd never made before) instead of butter, and it's tasty and unctuous and just good. Definitely not potatoes, but creamy and good in its own right ( Read more... )
