Fanart: "Alexander and Hephaestion reading"

May 21, 2006 00:05

There seems to be a fanart bug going around lately, which is wonderful . . . but I caught it!
For my part in it, I think I blame
coraldawn. ^___________^ Ever since her fish challenge . . .

Not really based on the movie. Very derivative from anime/manga style, and I can't do Alexander and Hephaestion justice. But for what it's worth, here:

Original inspiration: Alexander and Hephaestion make me do strange things. American Library Association "Read" advertisements, images saying "Read" showing famous people with books. I wanted an Alexander and Hephaestion version, and there weren't any, so...
Materials: 0.3mm black ink pen for outlines. Color pencils. Photoshop for the text.

Sketch:

Scanning it made the picture kind of grainy, with the colors a little paler - I would really appreciate any tips on how to prevent this!
What are they reading? Probably Homer, or Xenophon... (Precocious, aren't they?) I don't know how their books would look, much less if titles were written on the covers . . .

Since Photoshop is new to me, I played around with it a little more.

Argh, maybe should have just left it as a sketch.

As always, any comments and criticism will be really appreciated!
