I never felt Team Gale when reading the books, but the movie makes it much more of a thing. You will like that I think.
When I read Prim's death, I screamed "I WISH SUZANNE COLLINS HAD NEVER BEEN BORN." They were harsh words and I'm prepared to rescind them, but I understand where I was coming from.
Just saw the movie. I liked it. I liked how they showed the game makers during the actual games, as well as the role the commentators played during the games, conveying thoughts that took advantage of the first person narrative in the book.
I don't think Rue should have been black, because I think she should look like Prim.
I think Suzanne Collins made the decision that Rue and Thrash were black before the movie was a thing that was happening. I think she was just so ambiguous with physical descriptions (which I like even though it's ind of maddening, because it shows that the whole book is not just an erotic fanfiction) that we the readers did not quite know. I think I read that, though.
I liked the movie a lot. The only thing they changed that I didn't like at all was when they removed the drugging of Peeta. I'm a huge sucker for h/c so I hated the short shrift that whole cave sequence got, thought of course ymmv. I loved the gamemakers, too. All the visuals were just stunning. I thought the film stood on its own legs as a work (unlike some Harry Potter films, which don't really make sense unless you've read the books).
