I can't stand it... [DW S5E5 Spoilers]

I can't stand it, I really can't. This 5th series of Doctor Who is so good. SO GOOD! It's addicting and the Eleventh Doctor is drawing me in even more than the previous Doctors. I don't know how it happened, but as good as those other episodes were, they almost look hokey when compared to this new series. And I can't believe it and I can't ( Read more... )

I know what you mean about this season. (Except that I watched up through The End of Time right before 11 started, so I've been watching all of his episodes as they come out.) It's so good. I never thought I'd say this, but... I think the Eleventh is my Doctor. Happy watching!

On the "what to do until series six" front, did you ever start watching The Sarah Jane Adventures? I would say they're not nearly in the same league as Torchwood or the new Doctor Who, but it's still the same universe (so there's some crossover) and there are occasional moments of brilliance. And if you're looking for more David Tennant, the Tenth Doctor guest-stars in an episode of season three!

I NEVER thought I'd say this, but I'm finding it pretty easy to accept that Doctors 9-11 are all MY Doctor. I think it's in part because the transition in character from one reincarnation to the next is relatively seamless. It always seems that the new Doctors are able to admit their most obvious changes right away, and then move on. They all seem to possess the same relatively similar attitude, and they all have the same basic moral values. I definitely think I could come up with a list of "what would the Doctor do?" that applies equally to 9, 10, and 11. However, I also notice that as Doctors 10 and 11 have both grown into the role, their portrayal of the character has changes from the first few episodes that each filmed. But that's part of what makes it both seamless and interesting. Each new Doctor begins with exactly the same experiences as his previous incarnation, and no more, but changes with time as he has more new experiences ( ... )

Well, as you could probably guess from the Pandorica bit, River returns for the season five finale -- but so far, we haven't learned a whole lot more about her. I would guess, though, that we'll see her in at least one more adventure (later on for the Doctor ( ... )

At the top, I meant I think we'll see her in a least one more adventure with the Eleventh Doctor. I think the majority of her adventures will be with a Doctor we haven't seen yet -- and may never! From a theatrical standpoint, her character is a lot more interesting when she's mysterious and something of an unknown quantity for the Doctor. (That being said, I would love to see their first meeting, from her perspective. As the Doctor moves further into River's past they become closer to equals, each knowing things the other doesn't -- but imagine their dynamic from the Library episodes reversed! Whichever Doctor it is that River first meets, clearly he makes a pretty strong impression on her.)
