I'm going to Counterpoint in July, I've never been before, I'm shy about filking but it's so much fun! Does anyone have any advice, has anyone been to the NorthEast Filk Music Convention before?
Hello! From the look of your LJ, you're the kind of person we like having around! I'm the songbook editor for Conterpoint, and I've been involved with the con since its beginning in the 90s. Drop in on the con suite, the song circles, and the open singing. That's where you'll get to meet people, and there's no requirement for you to sing unless you want to.
By the way, it's Conterpoint (as in con), not Counterpoint.
Hi! Like madfilkentist I saw your comment on the NEFilk group and wandered over here. I'm in charge of publicity/publications for this year's Conterpoint and a previous chair.
You mentioned you've been to a few Balticons and enjoyed some of the filk programming there. I've also run the filk track for Balticon since 1996. So you may recognize the_sheryl and me, as well as several other Balticon regulars who I know will be attending. So hopefully that might make things a bit less daunting.
In many ways Conterpoint will be like the filk track at Balticon or other gencons - there will be concerts, there will be open filk circles, there will be a couple of workshops. There will be opportunities to sign up to do a song on stage if desired. There will be a con suite and other places to hang out. And of course volunteering is always a great way to meet people! 8-)
