I was spending probably 6 hours a day with this person, streaming movies, sharing music, chatting on aim or on the phone. Many things were hard to believe in the beginning, silly things. Things I imagined a normal 17 year old would lie about. He said his name was Silver and I thought, “well... that is a unique name - if that really is his name." I sometimes wondered if he was older than he said and was almost certain the accent was bullshit. The idea that someone would lie about horrific things like abuse never crossed my mind.

Some friends of mine bought a piece of land in NH and had a foundation dug. Then they covered it with a (very) waterproof tarp and proceeded to pour a floor, frame the walls, put in water and a bathroom, slowly making it livable and paying next to no taxes since there was no roof. Then they put on a first floor but still no roof since the plan included an eventual second floor. Took almost 15 years before they were actually paying taxes on a finished house.
