Tea Party!

We're having a tea party! No, not the kind where Republicans with picket signs gather in public places and complain about liberals, or Democrats, or Obama, or taxes, or health care, or whatever it is they're complaining about (don't tell me, I don't want to know.) We're having a real tea party, with tea and crumpets and little crustless ( Read more... )

Ooooh, that looks good, except for the egg salad -- I hate egg salad. But everything looks fabulous. Now I'm hungry.

Yum, strawberries. Good idea. There will probably still be some around here -- this area of California is full of strawberry fields and the season seems to last for months. (Not that I'm bragging.)

Maybe I'll dip some in chocolate.

You could have egg mayonnaise sandwiches. I'd suggest Marmite, but you probably can't get it and it's a very personal taste thing. It's savoury salty and literally you either love it or hate it. I, naturally love it.

There are a couple of English stores where you can buy Marmite, so maybe we'll try it. Do you just spread on bread and eat it, or do you combine it with something else?

The best thing is to mix a little ( it is salty ) with some soft butter before putting it on bread or toast or crumpets. I love it and if you like Twiglets, you'll love it. I think it's worth trying, but it really is the kind of thing you have a definite reaction to. But please use it sparingly otherwise you will hate it. You almost scrape it on toast.

I have a great recipe for pasties, but I think they're a little heavy for tea... Will send it along when I get home in case you want it...

See if you can get your hands on clotted cream and have either a Devon cream tea (cream on bottom, jam on top) or a Cornish cream tea (jam on bottom, cream on top). You may not be able to find Ploughman's pickle, but you can still do a fake ploughman's lunch with crusty bread, the strongest white cheddar you can find if you can't find the real British stuff, and alcoholic cider. Real Westcountry, that is.

Wish I could join you! I'd bring the cream, the ploughman's pickle, and the cider. :D
