Oooh yes. Anytime I've had to deal with the Department of Education, their wait times have always been accurate, if not...generous.
If you can dazzle someone in the school district, they will sometimes call and expedite an application, but I'm not sure if that applies to the people who do the criminal history check, who may be from a different department. I can't remember.
Also, the expediting process may only apply to newly-hired teachers, not necessarily subs, unless there is very high demand for subs in a particular district (think Atlantic City). Worth a few calls, at least.
It's taken the right amount of time for me. Sometimes the offices lose things and they take 2 months, and then the normal time after you call to see what the hell is going on. But also, I've heard of them taking a couple weeks less than they said. It's a crapshoot.
