Two posts in one day. Weird, huh? I think this is only the third time I've done this.

And since I have absolutely no inhibition or sense whatsoever after a night with too little sleep, I'll come and comment here, too.

I've been on kind of a Sagan jag lately, and the last two years running I've been trying to figure out the meaning of that same joy, what it is, why there's so much I hold sacred in what he had to say about the world. This stranger is all in favor of people upholding that joy. It's tangled up with a lot of other issues and I am more than likely going to start another post on them as a result of this, but I think that taking that sort of sincere, reverent pleasure in the world very often makes us better people. Not just because we're kinder when we're happy, but because it gives us some perspective outside of our mundane lives, the rote frustrations of the quotidian - it lets us be surprised, and respectful, rather than experiencing things dully at a fashionably jaded distance, and I fully believe we can channel it to honor one another, not that we always haveBut, that aside, there's probably too small a ( ... )

It's weird how there's a stigma attached to joy now. Pain and anger and grief are "adult" emotions; joy has connotations of simplicity and childishness. "Simple pleasures" and all that. Or so it seems from here, honestly.

Even when the pleasures aren't simple. Wonder just isn't appreciated when you're past a certain age. It's like it lowers you somehow, and a lot of people don't like that.

I'll keep my eyes open, thanks!
