My favorite form of voting is approval voting. It's more simple than IRV because you don't have to put your candidates in any order, simply select those you think would make good choices. yah or nah. The possibility of spoiled ballots from attempting to explain IRV to Joe Plumber are too much, IMO.
The results end up being very close to IRV without the complication.
You still have to explain how the voting is fair to make sense for the population to want to change. I think people understand ranking preferences rather than check as many as you want.
How do you explain how voting yes for 3 candidates on one ballot is fair? Personally I think people understanding ranking better.
Also, there have been legal challenges in the approval style condorcet voting that don't apply to ranking/IRV (ie: one man one vote apparently has been used successfully against approval voting)

It's easier than 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1...
It's much too easy to accidentally repeat #7 twice and spoil your ballot. Yes or no... much harder to mess up.
