Yes, that is a BIG bummer, and I am sorry to hear that. That is one of the things that I make sure when I leave Bloomington for a vacation. It would be so annoying to hear someone else's alarm clock for an extended period of time, and I try not to be the offending side.

Alarm clocks should have the function to stop the alarm automatically after a certain period of time. Say, 1 hour!

Sorry to hear that. It is not unusual for people in hotels to leave the alarm set when they check out, but the staff often forgets to make sure it is turned off when they clean the room. I hope you got through the day without too much sleepiness - and enjoy California!
