Through calloused work i will grow soft

I am shocked you're flying - especially since the train is much cheaper if you book in advance. Tsk. Tsk. Says the man who's just flown back from Morocco...

And...ask most people in the third year what their PhD's about and they won't have a clue, so you're off to a rollicking start, really.

It's particularly shocking when I think of the discounts I'd get with my Young Persons Railcard too - I once had a return ticket for £30... add the price of the Edinburgh shuttle, and getting to Birmingham Airport to the price, and the flying option is unsustainable in every sense of the word. Unfortuately, the last train from Leicester leaves before I've finished work... Apparently the new train franchises in November will fix that, and all will be well once more.

Meanwhile, the PhD malarkey... I think its the process of applying and being accepted by a department that scares me more than the actual PhD itself...
