ok just so you know, the instructions on the drywall mud, well lies.. it takes well over a day to cure..

you got to put it on thinner. sometimes i get to dry in 2 hours.

yeah, I'm seeing that now...
so how many coats does it normally take you then?
as if i hold a straight edge up to the wall i still see a bit of an indentation in the groove, but barely..

I just don't want to start painting and then see huge lines in the wall..

depends on the hole. did you get some drywall sand paper? i mud, wait a day, sand, repeat. i have a monster bookshelf project i'm working on. hopefully tomorrow will be paint day, but i have to get things level and crap because i have lots of molding to go on. it'll be amazing when i'm done.
