the artists are trying to spread awareness. by having this "huge concert" which is really i believe 6 different concerts, they get people to sign the petition. the G8 see all these people, they see how so many people are getting together to do this, and they should change their minds and help.
i don't know how else to explain it.

the point is that the artists don't want people's money. they want to get your voice.
