Yes, if they just cared a little more then maybe it would be alright, but you do know that caring for a broken world requires pain and brokenness in your heart? GOD has called us to something amazing and I hear the passion of your words. They echo like a hope in my soul. Remember, there are days coming when you must love a fallen world to go further, and that means pain. You are not in a fight that you plan to cost you nothing, so let it cost you everything already and press in. After all, few are them that have compassion for a dying world so much that they are consumed with the compassion, but Jesus said that zeal for GOD's house had eaten Him up. He did weep, remember. Look back at what He said when He wept and see if you can find in that a reason to give your heart to the world, knowing it may very well crucify you
