After a rather long concert drought, May was filled with amazing shows that I went to with amazing people. I saw Beats Antique at the 9:30 Club with a lot of belly dance friends (no pics because I forgot my camera at home),
The Joy Formidable (pics start partway down the page) with
likeadeuce at the National in Richmond,
The Hush Sound at U Street Music Hall with several friends I've made at Gold Motel shows, and
Bayou Country Superfest (pics start partway down the page) with my mom, dad, and sister while I was home for Memorial Day.
The other big part of my trip home for Memorial Day was taking some time to visit
Owen, the new baby of my two best friends from college. (And also to hang out with my friends because one-month-olds aren't super entertaining with their 24/7 sleep/poop/eat lifestyle)
So far in June, I have seen two Fall Out Boy shows,
one (pics start partway down the page) at the Electric Factory in Philly and
one at the 9:30 Club in DC. Both shows were super great, and I had a great time with all the excellent people I was there with.
Then I got to watch the LSU Tigers play Oklahoma in the college baseball super regionals. Game 1 was probably in my top 5 most beautiful games of baseball I have ever seen, especially since we won. Then we won Game 2 which means the Tigers are going to Omaha for the College World Series!!!!
Guess who already made plans and bought tickets to all the games for the CWS? It's me and my mom!
I found out a few weeks back that I will be traveling to Oklahoma City for work June 10-17. While not super excited at the prospect of being in OKC for a week, I looked to find fun and unusual things to do while there. (Currently excited about visiting Sonic HQ, a banjo museum, and a burlesque festival) I also checked to see how close OKC is to Omaha since I've always wanted to go to the College World Series, but the timing/money/travel never worked out. As it happens, it is only a 7 hour drive from OKC to Omaha, so I immediately called my mom and inquired as to whether or not she might be available for some baseball. Since she is retired and loves college baseball more than I do, she said yes. So I will be in Omaha June 18-27 with my mom for the College World Series. We had been pretty excited about the trip for a while and kept discussing whether or not we thought the Tigers would make it (yes, because they are so fucking awesome this year) and what sort of site seeing we would do when not at a game. We're both over the moon that LSU has officially made to the CWS this year and that we will get to see them play.
Anyways the other point of this post was to let everyone know I will be pretty scarce online June 10-27. I will be checking twitter sporadically but not doing much backreading. At reply or dm me if you want me to see something on twitter. I have email notifications sent up for those, and I will be keeping up with email more regularly.
I welcome any and all suggestions for things to see/do/eat in the Oklahoma City and Omaha areas.
