1. How has joining the marines changed you life? Do you think you would be better or worse off if you hadnt enlisted? Why?

The Marine Corps has done a helluva job at changing me for the better. Since i enlisted, not only have i gotten in better shape, but the marine corps has increased my confidence, writing proficiency, public speaking, and most importantly its allowed me toget out of the same boring rut that NH put me in for 18 years. Ive seen, and done things i never thought i'd ever do/see if i stayed in NH, and though it put a strain on relationships and the relationships with some of my friends, I wouldnt change it for the world. I've also beeen given the oppurtuniy to travel, which is more than what most people from our class can say.

2. Who are your Heroes?

As cliche as this sounds, the closest thing i have to a hero or heroes are the marines who came before me and molded my marine corps into the premire fighting force we are today. Also i would have to say that I'm my own hero, for constantly exceeding my own expectations.

3. Name 3 or 4 people who have affected your life the most, either positively or negatively, and maybe give a little insight as to why or how.

1. Sgt Richard Lopez - As you may remember, he was the one who recruited me into the Marine Corps, and without him, i sure as hell wouldnt be the man i am today.

2. Cpl Karen Barlow - One of my good friends that ive met while being stationed in Quantico. During my pursuit to win her heart, i learned a few things about myself, to include the ery important fact that shyness will not get you very far in the world, especially in the relationship world. Though my pursuit failed, i learned what i had to change about myself if i ever wanted to get ahead in life. So far, my change has been succesful, though its far from being complete.

3. Sgt Edward Pages - My motivated Budget Cheif, he too has helped me overcome my confidence issues. Also his fun loving nature, natural motivation, and kindness had been passed down to me as with everyday i work for him, i feel myself not only growing as an individual, but growing as a marine. When i get promoted to Corporal, I'll be better than my counterparts largely due in fact to him.

4. What are a few goals you have met so far in your life, and a few goals you have yet to reach?

I dont think i really ever had any life goals. I more or less had short term goals that included doing something productive after high school (check) getting a good paying job (check) and buying my first legal drink (check). Life goals that i can now think of include the amazing feat of picking up Sergant in my first enlistment, which is rare unless youre in the band, going to and passing Marine Security Guard school, settling down with someone and reaping the benefits of fatherhood and being a marine with dependents (can you say mad amounts of cash:) haha) but most importantly, i wanna look back on my life when i get out of the marine corps, whether it be in 8 years or 20, or even 30, and confidently state "i made a difference, and those around me have benefitted from the difference i made."

5. At our HS reunion in a few years, what do you want it to be like? What do you hope that our former classmates, especially those who might not have known you well, or might not even made an effort to get to know you that well, will think of you?

To be honest, i wanna be the shining light of success. I want to show up in my dress blues, decorated with medals and ribbons, and be one of the greatest succes stories from our class. I want people to look at me and say "hey wasnt he that shy quiet kid?" Basically i wanna bask in the ambiance of the moment, reconnect with my friends from yesteryear, and have a great time.
