Bootlegging

May 02, 2008 04:17

EDIT: He took down all his blogs about the CDs he was passing out. But he still admits that he did it. And he's started posting answers to his hate mail. I smell wank~~~!

I posted this in my journal...but hell with it. I'mma post it here too. )

Are they fucking serious? I mean... really? I'm like.. trying to think of something more coherent to say but all I can come up with is "are they fucking serious?"

I really hope Danger Crue takes care of them. And will even report them as well so it'll draw more attention. Cause that's bullshit, really. You want people to come to the show, hand out flyers and tell others to go to the OHP and listen to the samples so they can then decide to buy the albums. Just... seriously, what the fuck.

Thank you. I was hoping that I wasn't alone in thinking that was a total wtf-fiesta.

Yeah, no problem. I just... I'm having a hard time understanding how this a) helps the band and b) what would make anyone think it was okay.

Also if you want to post this in itai_tegami, feel free. Dunno if it'll do any good, but if people there know about it there's more of a chance of the bootleggers getting reported back to DC and stopped. Completely up to you though.

Oh, thanks. I wanted to post it there, but I didn't want to break the drama rule (as it was possible to insight some.) I'll post it now.

FOr me, it's honestly disrespectful to the band. =/

I mean, I guess its okay in groups but I to do it somewhere official... I'm not going to say I'm such a saint becuase I download myself too (only because I can't get ANY cds at all).

This guy probably got dropped on his head as a kid. Unfortunately, I don't think his mom stopped dropping him after that.

It's not everywhere bootlegging. At least with the current Swiss law it's allowed to make about up to 5 copies and to pass them to friends. You're not allowed to ask money for it though - not even as in monetary reimbursement for the blank CD.

But I'm rather sure that those did more than 5 copies and don't live in Switzerland. xD Still, I think it's less bad if you're doing it for free - I mean, there are other people who do that for money which I think is the real bad thing since they're making money with work that isn't theirs.

If it were only 5 copies, I wouldn't be so upset. They mentioned doing it innitially for the club owner and booking agents. I saw no problem with that, but then they decided to pass out a whole spindle's worth to random people on the street... that is what made me angry. And no, the person lives in Oregon, USA. Where, we know that don't fly.

I agree, bootlegging for a profit is worse. I know this topic is a lot of grey area, but for me... that just crossed the line.

I emailed the contact address from the Danger Crue website: information@maverick-dci.com.
And I also sent a message to the band's myspace page, hoping that it could be forwarded to the legal department.
