Этимология: "The specific epithet is a noun in apposition in reference to "Sméagol", a fictional character created by J.R.R. Tolkien in The Hobbit (1937). Sméagol is an upland, semiaquatic, large-eyed, creature inhabiting the Misty Mountains of Middle Earth who has long, thin limbs bearing digits with bulbous tips, large webbed feet, and large protruding eyes-characters found in the new population being described herein" (первоописание, с. 150).
