Congrats on the Formula win! Working full-time with the race team in Boston sounds amazing. I'm planning a bunch of travel in the next month or so (Monday-Friday two weeks with one week in between), but I'll still end up with twice as many nights in my own bed as you got, I think.
As far as the annoying guy goes - some people are just awful at taking criticism. It sounds like the guy doesn't like leadership in general and may be particularly annoyed with the female team manager, so he probably doesn't like that you take Holly's side, although my guess is that you and she were correct and he was wrong. I never know what to do in that kind of case - I wonder if there's something small that you could put him in charge of to make him feel like he's in control?
yeah... I wasn't too keen on putting him in charge of anything technical or people related because he couldn't engineer his way out of a box, and the reason why I had to talk to him in the first place was that his actions were negatively affecting a few of the other team members. Oh, one of his other comments was that he felt that this should be run more like a "team" and less like a club... pfft, who is the one not acting like a team member? Oi! This guy is a perfect middle (micro) manager! Either way, I don't have to deal with him... nor would I hire/recommend him.
Actually, the team created/he came up with a middle managing like manufacturing lead position for next year.
