Rating: G
Pairings/Characters: Tom Hanson and the crew

Summary: The gang throws a surprise party for Captain Fuller.

Okay, Tom, just sit down and breathe. There has to be a way to figure this out. No worries, Captain will understand. He’s a good guy, enjoys some humor in his life every once in a while.

“This is going to be great,” Doug said, grinning from ear to ear.

“This is going to be a disaster,” Tom said through clenched teeth.

Captain Fuller’s office was decorated from ceiling to floor with balloons, ribbon and crepe. On his desk was a giant sheet cake with the words ‘Happy Birthday, Coach,” spelled out in blue icing. Judy was covering her mouth with on hand as she giggled and lighting over forty candles with the other.

“Don’t you think that’s a little dangerous?” Tom asked, eyeing the ends of her sleeve which were dangling precariously over the tiny candles.

“I can handle it,” she said, not taking her eyes off the cake.

Tom sighed again, trying to figure out a way of the situation.

The Coach was not going to like this. The vein that throbbed in his forehead whenever he yelled would probably burst. Doug might even become a homicide victim.

He just needed to come up with a plan to convince Judy and Doug that this was a bad idea, distract the captain long enough to dispose of everything, actually get rid of everything…Oh, this wasn’t going to work!

“How old is he, anyway?” Doug asked, taking a sip from his punch, which could quite possibly be spiked.

Judy shrugged, “Kip didn’t say, just said it was his birthday.”

“How do you know he wasn’t lying? He could be playing a practical joke,” Tom said, panic seizing him.

The other two officers looked at him as if he had grown a third head from his neck and it was telling inappropriate jokes.

“Chill,” Doug said, handing Tom his half empty cup.

He sipped the punch and winced when the sharp taste of Rum hit him. The alcohol started to work and Tom felt himself mellowing out. Doug was right, he should just calm down. It was a surprise birthday party, nothing wrong with that…

…Except for the possibility that Fuller might strangle him.

Sal poked his head into the office, “Here he comes.”

He brushed the light switch off as he closed the door and Judy and Doug crouched down low.

“Why are the lights off?” Fuller asked, his voice light with humor.

That’s a good sign, Tom thought to himself.

Tom heard Dennis reply, “Not sure.”

Great. Dennis was in on this, too. Just perfect.

Fuller opened the door and flicked the lights on.

“SURPRISE!”
