wow, this is an extremely old post, but i wanted to comment anyway. i've only watched eternal sunshine and the science of sleep, but i absolutely loved both. i think he might be able to bring out the childish eccentricity quite well, actually, but i'm not as familiar with his stuff as i would like to be.

heh, the only boy actor i can think of is haley joel osment, who might do pretty well, i think. the only thing i'm unsure about is how big oskar's supposed to be. there's an illustration of a skinny boy on my copy of the book, but he makes references to his 'fat fingers', so i'm confused.

oh man. gondry or wes would be amazing (they are my two favorite directors.)

personally, i think gondry would be perfect. oh man, i hate book to movie adaptions, but gondry doing the adaption would be amazing.

I don't know much about directors, but I would like some unknown kid to play Oskar, not Haley Joel Osment or another of these annoying kid stars.
