That's a euphemism that seems oddly fitting, though he's hardly Elvis. I'm so sorry to see him go. I was very sad to read of his passing this morning; I just bought his latest book the day before yesterday

wucka-wucka... catching up sorta peripatecially and randomly, checked your LJ... (guess where I am, hint, it's in a city northeast of Cambridge, and a college contemporary of yours said, "I didn't realize fans were that stupid.")
For all your idiosyncracies, you aren't self-destructing--harsh words, but while you did crawl under the table in apphension at the Concertino, you didn't crawl into the depths of New Orleans and actively hide from your old friends for a decade.
Or to try to make that less opaque--you are taking better care of yourself and have people around who you are connected to, and accept support from. Bob seemed to have had crawled into a hole, while others patiently waited for him to get his act together enough to crawl out. But when he finally had, it was late, and then too late.
I always expected that he'd emerge and show again someday where I'd see him. I'm sad that that never happened.
