Self-Esteem may be the most enduring of the Political Correctness movement of the 1990s. Today it is considered an acceptable analysis to say that someone has low self-esteem or, in today's language, a "poor self-image". I think self esteem is a more personal thing. It's not that society should be concerned about hurting other people's self esteem; it's that people need to be empowered to believe in themselves. If anything, that's the only obligation society has to that.

That said, it's callous to say that people need to be cut down and told where they're inadequate. But, I guess there are different ways of approaching things, and that's just not mine.

*shrug*

Self esteem is a good thing. I don't think in itself it's a term of political correctness. But, I can see how you would interpret it that way.

At least no one in college was afraid to tell me I sucked at things. Of course I have no self esteem to hurt in the first place. This you know. I've been keeping track. I have now been fired for the 436th time.
