Congratulations, love, and good for you for asking questions about the tests. I get the sense that people have these tests and then forget to think around them so that the test ends up being the be-all and the end all and apparently, it's not.
The thing about Doctors is that, when you have a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. They always want tests and tests and more tests - and it's rare to find someone (who practices western medicine anyway) who thinks about the whole picture!
Meanwhile, Second Shot not only doesn't have Downs - she is actually a GENIUS! Tim Mckay held my hand!
Second Shot is a genius! AND I KNOW! I told my husband about this story and we are both just charmed beyond belief. I always felt like Tim McKay was a really good guy and this just cements it.
I totally agree with you about the Big Picture stuff. Interestingly, I'm working with both non-western and western docs on my back stuff and right now, the non-western folks are winning at helping me retrain myself in ways that allow me to be more mobile.
I don't know which part of this post I should start with, but I'll say almost all of it had me BEAMING AT YOU AND BABY! All but that passing out part. My god, you could have been burned by the asphalt in temperatures like that.
I am 37 and due in less than a month with my second - also a girl! I feel you on the Advanced Maternal Age. Sometimes you'd think I was 70! And even though our initial tests all came back with great scores, they STILL offered to do further testing thanks to my age. JUST IN CASE. Thank you NO, I will pass on the giant needle stuck into my belly for no reason. And all other unnecessary testing as well. Sheesh.
Already you have a fangirl on board! Good for you. So far my JellyBean has only proven to be a fan of baked goods.
WOW. Second Shot is already showing *major* fangirl talents. Are you showing a lot already? Because that's a very high degree of helpfulness (cop + TIM MCKAY TO HOLD YOUR HAND OMG) for passing out on a hot NYC street, and I wonder if the "pregnant lady passing out!!" factor drew extra support.

Congrats! Hopes for an uneventful (well, from here on out) pregnancy and a healthy baby girl.
