Fix my cat

Jan 20, 2010 09:27

I know I’ve asked this once before, but now it’s serious.  The stupid cat is spraying my house.

Female cat needs to be fixed.  The place I take the kittens when they needed eye medicine wants $250 between the surgery and pain meds.  If I don’t find a cheaper option, there’s going to be one more stray cat in Covington.

Any help?  (Cincinnati area)

Oh bless - that is cheap. When we ended up with our stray baby, it cost us almost twice that - with shots and the like.

There are organizations who can help, but I found none in Columbus. Try the human society or run with google!

I also know Spaying is more expensive than the neuter...

Pet Concern in Clintonville
there's a spay and neuter clinic in Hilliard
Cat Welfare in Columbus

There are low-cost spay and neuter clinics all over - call your local shelter and ask

Already spayed her around Thanksgiving before I ended up with a litter of kittens in addition to the cat who came and decided to stay :) Or the kids got some random parasite...

I tried calling a few discount places but there were either booked or did not call me back... :( Took the humane society almost a week to return my calls.

I can say tho, I love the vet I found. It was pricey, but they took excellent care of her.

Fixing her should help, but it might take a little behavior modification too. I can help you with that if you need to try it; it's not too hard and your house would work well for it. It basically involves confining the cat in a smallish space with the litterbox and not a lot of other places to go until they re-learn to go only in there. I had a cat who had those type of issues and that treatment mostly worked for her...she lived a long life with only sporadic issues after that.

If you can't find a cheaper option, then take her to the pound. At least then she would get a humane death versus the things that can happen to a stray. Its the responsible thing to do.

$50, near Red Bank Road: http://www.theanimalrescue.com/mash.html.

The site says that you can usually get an appointment within a week, and the $50 includes surgery and pain meds.

If that doesn't work, I googled "low-cost spay neuter cincinnati".

Right on! Good for you. (Good for the kitty, too!)

See you tonight?

Another one: $35 to spay a kitty, including pain meds, in the Queensgate (8th St.) area: http://www.ucancincinnati.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=52&Itemid=58#prices. They don't have appointments available until after Feb. 8, though. Also, I couldn't figure out what the hours are.

The one off Red Bank (in my previous comment) says it has "extended hours," which sounds promising.
