In which Dean gets surprised.

He had pissed her off, yes, but she still needed to see him. She hadn't in a couple months and she had been really worried. Now, she was worried even more. And she wasn't letting his stubbornness keep her away. It didn't take her long at CONTROL to track him down with his cell phone. As soon as she figured out where he was, she arranged a private flight out there.

It took her until the next night, but she was soon pulling into the motel parking lot quietly and getting out to find his room. She could have probably shown up sooner, but she figured appearing at nighttime would probably be best all around. When she found the correct door, she took a breath and let it out. Frankly she didn't know if he'd let her in or make her leave, and she wasn't so sure she could handle the latter. She knocked.

Sam was out. Neither of them had spent much time with each other since Dean had said how he was really feeling, so it was always one of them going out and one of them staying in and for the moment, Sam was gone. When he heard the knock on the door, he just figured that Sam had forgot his key, but he wasn't stupid either. He knew enough to check through the peephole first and when he saw who it was, he froze.

It wasn't that he didn't want to see her. He desperately, desperately wanted to see her. But he couldn't live with her getting hurt either, which is why he told her to stay away. However, now that she was actually here --

He pulled open the door, staring at her for a long minute before actually speaking. "Beth, I told you -- "

Her breath caught in her throat when she saw him. Part of it was from how much she'd missed him, and part from how much his face had changed since she had last seen him. Like it had been years and not months. She kept her eyes on his and shook her head. She stepped closer and reached a hand out to touch his face gently.

He closed his eyes at the touch and pulled her inside, closing the door behind her as he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her closer.

She moved in with him and wrapped her arms around his neck, leaning in close and holding him tight.

He continued to pull them back from the door, sitting down on the edge of the bed and pulling her into his lap and burying his head in her shoulder.

She rubbed his back and held his neck, kissing his cheek lightly. She didn't know what to say, so she just kept close and quiet.

He took a deep breath, before actually speaking again. "I don't know what to do, Beth."

"The best you can. It's all you can do."

"But what if the best I can isn't good enough. What if the best I can doesn't fix anything?"

"Then at least you tried. And...then you'll try another angle, and another...and you won't give up until you get it right, because that's who you are." She sat up and set her hands to his chest as she looked at him.

He looked back at her. "If I don't get it right the first time, a lot of people die."

She bit her lip and shook her head slowly. "I don't know what to tell you, Dean. You can't...you can't save everyone. I know how much that sucks, I really, really do, but...it's just how it is. And if that happens...it's not your fault. It's because of the evil out there."

"Evil I let out." Because she didn't have to hear about Sam's end in all this. He didn't have time to explain the whole story, and he didn't want to make things worse for him.

Both of her hands came up to cup his face. "Was it something you did on purpose?"

He paused for a minute, trying to figure out what the right answer to that question was before responding. "I -- I don't know."

"Did you want it to happen?"

"No."

"That's the important part. Yeah, it happened, but you didn't ask for it to. So stop blaming yourself and...and go be the best hero you can be. If...for nothing else, then for me."

Dean looked down for a minute, then started to nod. "I'll try."

She tilted his head up so that he'd look at her again and gave him a soft smile. "And I'll be proud of you no matter what." Then she leaned in and kissed him lightly.

Dean didn't respond, just kissed her back and wrapping his arms around her waist tightly, pulling her closer. She let him, her arms going around his neck as she moved in closer. He leaned back against the bed more, pulling him with her starting to slide his hands over her back. She went with, relaxing against him with a sigh, and running her fingers against his face.

He kept up the kiss, his hands sliding down her back and under her shirt, groaning when he managed to find skin. It'd been far too long since he'd been able to touch her like this. Her body moved with his hands and she clutched onto his shirt when his hands moved under hers. She moaned softly, whispering his name. Dean pulled back slightly, pulling her shirt up with his hands, and breaking the kiss just long enough to get it over her head. She got his shirt out of the way as well, before leaning back in against him. Her hands explored his chest as she resumed the kiss.

He kissed her back, holding the kiss there for a second, before flipping them over, shifting so that he was on top again and letting his hands run down her sides. "I missed you so much."

Beth leaned back on the bed, enjoying the feeling of his hands on her. "I missed you, too," she murmured.

Dean moved his lips to her neck, still making his way through the rest of their clothes till it was skin on skin. She pulled him closer, and moved her legs up against his hip, silently begging him to keep going. He leaned in to kiss her again as he pushed himself closer, letting him lose himself in her as much as he could for the time being, and when he finally collapsed down next to her with a sigh, he was just exhausted. She sighed and curled into him, her arm wrapping around him. She rubbed his back slowly and watched him, concerned.

His eyes were still closed, but he knew the way she was looking at him. "Don't look at me like that."

"I can't help it."

He blinked open his eyes to look at her and rubbed her side lightly. "I'll be okay."

And all at once, she found herself more worried about how he'd come out of all of this, more so than the larger picture or him beating himself up. She moved closer and clung on to him. "Promise me you'll come back to me when it's all over."

Dean closed his eyes as he wrapped his arms around her and nodded. "I promise."

She kissed his jaw and relaxed against him.

Dean kept close, feeling his body start to drift off to sleep. "Don't disappear on me."

"I'll be here when you wake up."

"Good," he nodded, before closing his eyes and falling off next to her.

She couldn't quite sleep yet, so as she waited for sleep to come, she watched him again and gently stroked his cheek. Dean was pretty much out for the night, arms wrapped tightly around her. It was awhile, but eventually she fell asleep against him.
