As we are starting to spring into summer, I realize it is time for an update on life.
You know how life can be, it has been a blur of people going about their business, old friends getting married, having children, great people retiring, and growing old together. What about me you may ask?

A lot of people, even if they are very busy, have expressed feelings of isolation like you are describing. My EldestSister, who is very social and by nature of her job interacts with a lot of people, said something very similar to me recently. It is as if people are bringing less of themselves to each interaction, maybe because the pandemic isolation forced them to learn how to get by with less human contact. I have seen it with some of my friendships, too.
Regarding the nursing home situation, yes, I feel like with that and people aging generally, there is a temptation to separate the person you remember from the reality of who they are now... we miss what the relationship used to bring us and maybe on some level don't find current contact with the "today" person as satisfying. Which--depending on what their mental state is--doesn't necessarily have to be the better or worse; it's just different.
Anyway I am sorry you are feeling kind of adrift. I can definitely relate.
