take it from a woman who was about to adopt a male kitty, females are much nicer. in my opinion, they're just as affectionate. also, you're right. they really do not make as big of a mess. i also know this from a stray male cat that's spends all night and all day "calling" (that's what my mom calls it, but i prefer the term "howling") in an effort to get my kitty's attention. also, female cat piss doesn't smell nearly as bad as male pee. you can at least sometimes drown out a female's urine smell, but with male kitties? eek. there's no getting rid of that smell... i also found this out from the male stray... he's been marking my front door and porch. *sigh ( ... )

My cat is female and very affectionate; my parents' cat is male and very affectionate to everyone BUT me. He really hates me and bites me often, but I've never had that problem with my cat. I think it's an individual cat thing more than a gender thing.

My cat's favorite toy is this fishing pole-looking thing with a long pink feather on the end. It makes her crazy. Other than that, I don't spend much money on cat toys--she likes whatever she can pull off the desk or out of the garbage. Good luck with the new kitty!

We have a male cat (spayed) who is very nice. I dunno - play with the cat and see - I think it is the cat - not the sex.
