At one point my family had a dog, and I had a cat. (This was before my sister developed allergies to them, poor girl.) My cat was named Amorphous, because he was a fuzzball in which you couldn't find the cat, practically, when we got him. He then grew up to be a huge lazy blob of an overweight tomcat. He would lie on the floor, and the dog liked him, and wanted to be friends, so he'd come over, and sort of... gum the cat, and lick and drool on him, and 'Morph would just lie there like a lump, looking disgusted and covered in dog drool, until finally he got fed up and whapped the dog on the nose.

That cat was the laziest thing I've ever seen. The only time he'd stir himself was to avoid my brother (the twit!) who had dropped him off the balcony three or four times.

We had this male poodle who would always squat like a girl to pee. Then, when introduced to another male dog, he began to hike his leg so far that his back end was almost totally upside-down. But, when not in eye-shot of the other dog, he squatted. He's just trying to play the part of super macho poodle in front of another dog to compensate for being neutered, I suppose.

Oh, he's still around by the way. I moved out and he happended to be my mom's dog. :3

That's funny! My mother in law has a chi, who practically jumps when he's marking a tree to make himself seem like a bigger dog to the neighborhood.

Ok, same dogs at the above story. We got Dezi at the SPCA in Buffalo back when I was working there. He was about three mos old when we got him, and probably five or six mos at the time of this story. Pepper was happy to have another dog around after being the only dog amongst prey... Every time we took Dez to the vet, though, he STILL hadn't gotten rid of the worms. (He had all sorts of other problems, too, but this is the main thing involved in this story) We had already given him the treatment twice, and Pepper had it the second time as well, even though he showed no signs of getting them yet. Anyhow, we decided that we needed to spray the whole back yard to see if we could get rid of them, and for the whole treatment, the boys needed to go potty in the front. The front wasn't fenced, so we always went outside with them and only when there was no traffic, and no people walking their dogs, (Dezi would pee on-leash, but refused to poop on-leash, as we were finding out) It had snowed, and hubby was letting the boys out, and the ( ... )

one day in june or possibly july i was volunteering at the humane society. i offered to trim the cats nails because everyone else is scared to. so, afterwards, Peggy (the manager type lady?) offers to show me around. she shows me the dog runs, the cat house, the wash room, the new arrival cages. and in the new arrival cages i see a tiny kitten with its eyes still shut. its all alone in a metal cage with 1 sheet of newspaper to lay on, a bowl of called food and a bowl of water. the poor kitten is less than a week old. i asked Peggy what would be done with the kitten and she said it would probably be euthanized. :( i begged her to let me take it home and bottle feed it. she agreed and i carried the kitten home in a washcloth. the first night i had her, she opened her eyes and mewed at me ( ... )

See, now that one makes me all teary-eyed. Animals are the best at showing gratitude when it's given without expectation.

This may show my age, but when I was about 7, I found a kitten that had its eyes closed in a field that was full of feral cats. What I assumed to be its mother (swolen teats) was lying dead next to it a few feet away and the kitten was mewing loudly. I picked it up and took it home in my jacket. I had my mom call every pet store as well as the humane society trying to find out what kind of milk/formula I should use. None of them knew. (It may not have been avaliable on the market at the time)

I ended up giving it baby formula, and it lived for a week. I felt so horrible and helpless like there was nothing else I could have done at the time. His name was Maui.
