"So what's Ryo like in bed?" Uchi asks. Apropos of absolutely nothing.
Ohkura, who is calm in the face of many things, nearly spits out his drink.
"But, you have, right?" Uchi continues. "I mean, it's sort of obvious. You're always together, going on trips together, spending the night..."
"Are you stalking me or something?" Ohkura sputters.
"Maybe a little," Uchi says, wrinkling his nose.
It's been two days since Uchi came to stay. All seven of them have been living in hotel rooms between concerts in Tokyo. Uchi happened to be filming nearby, and after waffling back and forth for a few days, someone (doesn't matter who) invited Uchi to stay in the hotel and Uchi agreed. Three more days, and they'll have to move on, but for now, it feels like Uchi is back. It feels like he was never gone.
Ohkura stays in his own room at first, then stays one night with Yoko (who keeps him up all night), then finally settles somewhere between Ryo's room and his own. Uchi stays in a different room every night, but the night he decides to spend with Ryo, Ohkura is there, too.
Ryo has only wandered down the hallway to retrieve a CD he'd loaned to Yasu and his heels have barely left the door before Uchi starts in on the questions.
"I'm here to sleep, not to... gossip," Ohkura grunts.
"It's not gossip," Uchi says. "We're talking about you."
"What's your problem?" Ryo asks the moment he walks in the door.
Uchi and Ohkura both look at each other, then turn to look at Ryo.
"You." Ryo points at Ohkura. "If you're in a bad mood, stay in your own room."
"You're one to talk," Uchi says, grinning. Ohkura only scowls harder.
"I have a policy about these things." Ryo sets a stack of CD's down on a table near the bed, then sits down on the mattress.
"Not a very strict one," Uchi says.
Ohkura sighs, a little louder than he intends to. "I'll just stay in my room," he says, beginning to pick up his bag. "Unless..."
Ryo is pulling his PSP out of a drawer at the same time that Ohkura pulls his out of his bag. Somehow, just a moment later, Yoko peeks in the doorway, PSP in hand. "What are you guys up to?" He asks.
Uchi groans and flops down on the bed.
---
Uchi stays with Ryo two nights in a row. He thinks about asking Ryo the same questions he asked Ohkura, just because it was terribly fun watching Ohkura turn red. But, while he really was convinced that something may have happened before, he isn't so sure anymore. Maybe his intuition was wrong, or maybe he's been reading too many idol magazines. Whatever it is, he isn't quite sure he'll get a rise out of Ryo. And that takes at least half of the fun out of it.
It's just the two of them that night, and Uchi finds himself a little grateful for it. Funny how Ryo can ask him countless times to hang out, and the one time Uchi wants to be alone with Ryo, it's difficult to get him that way.
They lie in their beds and talk, the only light in the room in moving colors from the muted TV.
"I don't know if I believe in coincidence," Uchi says.
He thinks maybe he was going somewhere with it, but it also seems to depend on some type of response from Ryo. Ryo lies silent in his bed.
Uchi sighs, thinks about speaking again, but the blankets and sheets rustle around and it sounds like Ryo might be asleep.
"Hey, Ryo-chan," Uchi whispers.
Silence.
"Hey!" Uchi says, in a regular speaking voice. When there is still no response, he opens his mouth again, this time prepared to yell, but Ryo cuts him off.
"I'm pretending to sleep!" Ryo says. It's too dark in the room to see, but Uchi can just feel him smiling.
"Well pretend to wake up," Uchi says. "This is my last night here."
"No it's not," Ryo says. "You've got one more."
"You've got one more," Uchi corrects. "Maybe I'll leave tomorrow."
"But you..."
Then Ryo just stops abruptly. His intent hanging in the air long after the sound of his voice is gone.
It's quiet for a moment, then longer than a moment, then the silence swells up and reaches to every corner of the room. It feels like summer camp. It's lights out time and they have to stay in their beds. They can't leave the room or they'll get in trouble and they've already probably been in enough trouble this summer.
"What's Ohkura like in bed?" Uchi asks, breaking the silence.
Ryo has a very suspicious sounding coughing fit.
---
Ryo sits next to Ohkura on the train. Just like they always do when they travel together. It's just a short afternoon trip, since they don't have time for much more. The train feels unnaturally crowded. Ohkura's thigh presses against his.
"Not that I'm complaining, but..." Ohkura says. "Do we really need to go into the next town to buy a DVD?"
Ryo covers his knees with his hands. "Cabin fever," he says.
"Ah." Ohkura nods.
Uchi asked to come along, but just as the three of them were leaving the hotel, he turned on his heels and said he wanted to spend some time with Yasu instead. And while Ryo really wanted Uchi to come along, Yasu's bright smile when Uchi suggested that they go to the park together left Ryo unable to protest.
Ohkura doesn't ever speak much on the train, and usually he either stares out the window or falls asleep (leaving Ryo to poke him on the shoulder until he wakes up when they arrive at their destination). This time Ohkura stares straight in front of him. It's almost unsettling, and Ryo finds himself doing the same just by some kind of reflex.
The night before, Ryo started tuning Uchi out the moment he started talking about Ohkura... like that. It isn't like he hasn't been asked worse by interviewers before, but there's something a little more intimate about it when it's being discussed in bed in the middle of the night. Uchi's descriptions certainly weren't helping either.
Overhead, the announcer says that their stop is next and it will be about ten minutes until they arrive. Ohkura doesn't even appear to be blinking.
Ryo wants to ask him what's going on, but that neither sounds like a question he'd ask nor one that Ohkura would answer.
---
Yasu, Maru and Uchi walk in the park together. Yasu walks barefoot with the green grass between his toes and the heat on his back.
"It's good to be with you, Uchi," Yasu says, walking in big strides like a toy soldier.
Uchi smiles behind his hand and leans back into the feeling of Maru's hands on either one of his shoulders.
It's quiet and warm and Uchi finds that he doesn't have anything to say. He thinks about sending Ryo a text and asking how he's doing. Maybe he could send one to Ohkura at the same time. Maybe he could send them both a text asking what they thought about what he'd said to them the night before.
"Ice cream!" Yasu shouts, and sure enough there is a stand just on the other end of the park.
Uchi smiles, big and fake and he's sure Yasu could probably pick up on it if he tried and he doesn't bother looking directly at Maru.
Yasu half-runs and Uchi and Maru follow closely behind him. Uchi keeps biting down on his lip and his pinky fingers link together behind his back. When Yasu comes back and hands him an ice cream cone, he has to lick the the melty edges quickly. Yasu suffers from a cold headache and Maru battles with the vanilla dribbling down his hand.
But, it's worth it because when Yasu smiles at Uchi with chocolate on his lips, Uchi laughs and really means it.
---
When Ryo wakes up that morning, he's hard and somehow his hand is in his underwear, like he's started without himself.
"Hm," he says, out loud. Then he remembers Uchi stayed over the night before, and scrambles to cover himself up with another layer of blankets. But, when he looks over to the other bed, Uchi is gone.
"Uchi?" Ryo says, just in case he's in the bathroom or something, but the room is so silent and still that there can't possibly be another person inside of it. Ryo pulls on his dick after he's decided that he's completely alone.
In truth, Ryo has thought about fooling around with Uchi before. Something that took him by surprise, creeping into his thoughts, but it was years ago and he's mostly pushed it to the back of his mind.
He can't let Uchi know because either Uchi will make fun of him for the rest of his life or, even worse, he might reciprocate, and Ryo isn't prepared for either of these. It's one of those things he figures is best left unsaid, so he doesn't ever think about it. It's been long enough to where he can keep these thoughts out of his mind, but it's really difficult on a morning like this when he's already turned on and Uchi's presence still lingers in the room.
Ryo pumps steadily, not wanting to draw it out, and he thinks about Uchi because now it's too late. He thinks about Uchi's lips on his cock, or Uchi fucking him, or him fucking Uchi. About twelve different variations of this thought run through his mind rapidly (if he's going to think about it, may as well get it all out at once), but then something particularly distressing enters his mind.
He blames Uchi, of course, even if he'll never be able to tell him, but behind Ryo's closed eyes he sees himself lying on his back with Ohkura on top of him.
Ryo hesitates, then. It's been irritating enough to push these thoughts about Uchi out of his mind and now this is going to be equally annoying. This is also completely Uchi's fault and Ryo wants nothing more than to call him out on it, but it's really the last thing he can possibly do.
It's too late, and he's too close to finishing. He can't stop, so he rolls his thumb around the head to the image of Ohkura bent over the bed and Ryo's dick buried in his ass. Ryo pumps harder, moaning as he comes on his stomach and chest, then quickly gets up to clean himself up.
He runs a lukewarm shower and does his best to wash away the entire morning.
---
Uchi stands in the hotel hallway just across from Subaru. It's mid-morning and there isn't a show that day, so everyone is in a different stage of waking up. Subaru is still in pajamas and his hair is wild around his face. Uchi is fully dressed with a brown bag over his shoulder and looks ready to walk right out the door.
Ryo approaches Uchi, tentatively. "Where are you going?" Ryo asks in his most casual voice, but Uchi wonders if it doesn't sound a little forced.
"Work." Uchi shrugs.
"You said you'd come with me to the studio," Ryo says. He's taping for a variety show and he hates to go alone.
"Oh... I forgot that I'm filming across town today," Uchi says, matter of fact. "But have fun!"
"I think I've seen less of you in the last few days than I did when you weren't staying with us," Ryo whines.
"C'est la vie," Uchi says, flippantly.
The truth is that Uchi isn't filming that day. Well, he was, but it was rescheduled for the following week and no one else really needs to know about that, do they?
He walks around Tokyo by himself, in one shop and out the other, for most of the morning. He pulls out his phone and thinks about calling Ryo four times, then the fifth time he pulls his phone out of his pocket, it buzzes right in his hand.
"I see you," says the message on the screen and Uchi ducks (even though there isn't anything to duck under in the middle of the sidewalk) and turns around in a full circle.
He thinks of replying with something equally ominous, but he's too frightened to even operate his phone properly. He slides it closed and pinches his finger and at the same moment he sees someone waving to him from a cafe across the street. Uchi sucks on his wounded finger as he approaches and it's halfway to the other side of the street when he can see that the waving person is Hina.
Hina looks down at Uchi's finger. "Damn, I'm good," he says. Uchi very nearly rolls his eyes.
---
At the TV studio, Ohkura waits backstage for Ryo to finish his filming. He doesn't envy Ryo, as this show is known for having them do humiliating things and, while Maru and Subaru live for this sort of thing, Ohkura usually hates it and Ryo gets easily flustered. As a courtesy, Ohkura waits backstage and doesn't sit in the audience. It's also a little selfish, because if he were to sit in the audience there is a chance they'd talk to him or pull him up in front of the camera.
It's a little after 6 p.m. and they've been filming nearly three hours. Ohkura plays his PSP idly, not really paying attention to the game, but it's something to do. Another thirty minutes pass and Ohkura doesn't look up from the screen until he hears the door open.
Then, the worst thing that's ever happened to Ryo or to Ohkura or to anyone (if anyone else was unfortunate enough to witness) happens: Ryo walks into the dressing room in a tight skirt and heels.
---
"Well sit down!" Hina says. He's sitting at a table for two by himself and he bookmarks and sets down the book in his hand while Uchi takes his seat.
"What are you doing by yourself?" Hina asks.
"Same to you," Uchi says.
Hina shrugs. "No show today, just killing time. I thought you'd be with Ryo-chan today," Hina says, laughing. "I thought you'd be with him every day."
Hina is always one of two extremes, either he's surprisingly perceptive and can read the atmosphere well, or he doesn't even come close. Unfortunately, today is one of the latter. Uchi twists his fingers together and looks down into the dark blue surface of the table. He can see the outline of his face in it.
"Everyone thinks we're such good friends," Uchi says. "We're not, really."
Hina raises an eyebrow and Uchi looks at him, daring him to ask.
When he doesn't, Uchi continues on anyway.
"It's just one of those things, you know?" Uchi says. "I mean, you're probably not as close to Yokocho as people think, right?"
"Sometimes I wish that were the case," Hina says. "I mean..."
But he doesn't need to backtrack with Uchi. Especially when Uchi is clearly more focused on talking about himself.
"We just... know each other," Uchi says. "I guess."
"Acquaintances?" Hina adds, helpfully.
"Yeah, that," Uchi says.
A waitress comes with a plate of food for Hina and asks if Uchi wants anything. He just asks for water, sits back in his seat and watches people walk down the sidewalk.
---
Ryo might as well be completely naked for as much as the skirt is covering him. He stands in front of Ohkura, unable to move.
It's incredibly awkward, even more so when Ohkura's eyes linger on the entire length of Ryo's body, starting from the bottom, then all the way up.
"Stop it," Ryo says through his teeth. He's turning about a million shades of red and, judging by the way his face feels so hot, Ohkura probably is, too. Ohkura swallows a couple of times, then clenches and unclenches his fists.
"Are you gonna change?" Ohkura asks.
"Of course I am, idiot." Ryo pushes past him, his chest and neck are as flushed as his cheeks, and he holds tight to the bottom of the skirt while he walks.
Don't, Ohkura almost says, but he stops himself. He doesn't say a word while Ryo pulls a t shirt out of his bag, but he doesn't take his eyes off of Ryo either.
"What?" Ryo asks. "I said stop i--"
It's one motion. Ryo starts to walk to the door, but Ohkura curls his arm around Ryo's waist. Ohkura doesn't say anything, ; neither does Ryo and when Ohkura leans in to kiss Ryo, there isn't a word of protest. Ohkura parts Ryo's lips with his tongue and wraps his other arm around Ryo's waist so their bodies are pressed close together.
"You've been talking to that idiot Uchi," Ryo says. Then Ryo is a bit relieved that, instead of responding, Ohkura just kisses him again.
There are a few problems. One: Ryo's feet are killing him. The second being that, this all feels a little false. Uchi has been whispering these suggestions into Ryo's ear for days. So much that, while he's enjoying kissing Ohkura much more than he expects, he can't get past the feeling that Uchi is going to burst into the room at any minute. The third problem doesn't occur to him until Ohkura starts making low groaning noises against Ryo's mouth. Ryo is completely hard, pressed against Ohkura's body, wants him like he can't remember ever wanting anything before, and they're in the most inconvenient semi-public place imaginable.
Ohkura turns Ryo around so that he's right in front of him. He starts kissing the back of Ryo's neck and Ryo can feel Ohkura's erection through his pants and the thin material of the skirt. Ohkura rubs against his body desperately and it only turns Ryo on more.
"Tacchon..." Ryo says. "This isn't..."
Ohkura's shoe scuffs against the floor and they both jump from the noise.
Ryo sighs and slips out of Ohkura's arms. "We should go," he says.
He doesn’t' face Ohkura while he changes into his pants and sneakers. For some reason, he doesn't want Ohkura to see just how red he is, just how turned on he is. Even if it's obvious that Ohkura feels exactly the same.
Just as Ryo is starting to slide the skirt over his hips, he hears door latch. The feeling of security suddenly makes Ryo a little braver and begins to loosen the knots in his stomach. Ohkura starts to close the space between them, but stops short when Ryo starts to laugh.
"So this..." Ryo gestures down to the lower half of his body. "This gets you off, huh?"
"God if you tell anyone..." Ohkura says. He slowly makes his way over to where Ryo is standing and Ryo sits back on the couch and lets Ohkura part his thighs. Ohkura reaches under the skirt and rubs Ryo's erection through his underwear while Ryo sighs.
Ryo doesn't have any condoms with him. He doesn't want to ask Ohkura if he does because Ryo isn't even sure how far any of this is going to go. Ohkura pulls Ryo's underwear down and wraps his hand around Ryo's cock.
"Wait," Ryo says, stepping out of the uncomfortable shoes. When Ohkura looks disappointed, Ryo snaps back, "Don't even think about it."
Ohkura's mouth is hotter than Ryo could have ever imagined, and he sucks on Ryo's dick just slowly enough to drive Ryo crazy.
Ryo holds onto Ohkura's shoulders and watches. Ohkura closes his eyes.
The skirt is up around Ryo's waist, and Ohkura has one hand down his pants. Then Ryo wants to touch Ohkura, he licks his lips and thinks about Ohkura's cock in his mouth.
"Let me..." He starts to say, but then Ohkura's tongue is swirling around the head and Ryo is too close. "T-Tacchon," Ryo says and Ohkura pulls away and strokes Ryo until he comes in his hand. Ryo's fingers dig into Ohkura's shoulders.
"Let you what?" Ohkura asks.
Ryo drops to his knees, so they're at eye level, and takes Ohkura's dick in his hand, pulling roughly. Ohkura moans and Ryo kisses his neck, biting a little, just leaving a light imprint of his teeth.
"Ryo-chan," Ohkura breathes into Ryo's hair and it only takes three more quick strokes before Ohkura comes.
The only thing Ryo can think after he's caught his breath and after they've both cleaned up is that the atmosphere is much more comfortable than he expected. The train ride back is calm and Ryo only barely notices Ohkura's hand on his thigh.
---
In the evening, Yoko sends a text to both Ryo and Ohkura: "The hunt is on. Bring your weapons."
Thirty minutes later, all three of them sit facing each other on Yoko's bed. Ryo's back is to the window and the curtains are open, so the sunlight pours in all around him. Ohkura doesn't say anything except for necessary words and Yoko groans loudly when they just barely misses capturing their target.
"When did you start sucking at this game, Nishikido?" Yoko tosses his PSP down onto the bed, then quickly picks it up and inspects it as if the soft mattress would have left a scratch somehow.
"I don't want to play anymore," Ryo says, sounding frighteningly like a child picking up his toys and leaving the sandbox. Ohkura still doesn't say anything, just switches his PSP off and sets it down on his knee. Ryo looks at Ohkura intensely for a long time. Yoko looks from one to the other and back again.
"What the hell is this all about? Are you arguing about something?" Yoko smirks. "'Cause the show is in two hours and you'd better work it out before you have to dance together in those matching hats."
Ryo glares, though he doesn't look over at Yoko.
"You are arguing? Give me twenty minutes and I'll write this into the ranger skit."
Ryo's lips turn up into a smirk and a grin spreads across Ohkura's face too quickly for him to stop it.
"Oh, you're not arguing, you're... what is going on then? Because you guys have been acting weird."
"Weird how?" Ryo snaps.
"Well not really that weird," Yoko says. "But that was a little defensive."
Ryo glares directly at Yoko this time.
"You have a secret," Yoko grins. "Are you going to form your own band? Did you start fighting crime together by night? Are you sleeping together?"
All at once, Ohkura says "No" and Ryo coughs.
A pause. Then even Yoko looks embarrassed.
"We're not forming our own band," Ohkura says.
"Definitely writing this into the skit," Yoko says, turning back down to his PSP.
If Hina were here, he'd smack all of them. He isn't, of course, but Ohkura starts rubbing his head anyway.
---
It's funny how, when Yoko gets word of something, it spreads twice as quickly as a wildfire. However, it's not an accurate relay of information, more like a twisted game of telephone. By the time word reaches Uchi, he has some vague idea that Ryo and Ohkura are involved, but he doesn't know how long or how serious or how much this is any of his business anyway.
But, his business or not, he sticks his nose right in the middle of it because he just can't help himself.
"I wasn't expecting you to..." Uchi says, quietly, looking off to the side even when Ryo tries to establish himself in Uchi's line of sight. "I mean, I guess I knew..."
Uchi looks so small to Ryo. Like he's shrunk down and unrecognizable as the person Ryo's known for all of these years. Then all of Ryo's fears are in his throat. The idea that Uchi would reciprocate his feelings was always a possibility that Ryo didn't allow himself to think about.
Uchi could have just said so, Ryo thinks, but even that isn't the truth because if he'd suggested hooking up with Ryo a week ago, Ryo would have probably done everything in his power to pretend he hadn't. But it's different, somehow, thinking about this with the feeling of Ohkura's hands still on his body.
"So what was he like?" Uchi asks. His voice breaks in the middle, but the way he coughs and tries to cover it up lets Ryo know he isn't doing it for dramatics.
"I'm not talking about this," Ryo says.
"Why not?" Uchi asks. "I thought we were friends. You know, I thought we could tell each other anyth--"
"Would you cut the bullshit, Uchi?" Ryo snaps. Uchi nearly folds over himself and Ryo thinks of apologizing just because he looks so pathetic. But, he deserves to look like that. He's meddling and being incredibly nosy and what was supposed to be a few fun nights together has turned into nothing short of a disaster.
Ohkura comes into the room, quiet as a cat, and Ryo doesn't hear him.
"And it is bullshit," Ryo continues. "You're mad at me."
"I'm not mad at you," Uchi says, quietly. Ohkura looks like the thick air has physically hit him and tries to edge out of the room, but Uchi looks at him intensely. Tries to tell Ohkura to stay with his eyes.
"What?" Ryo says.
Before Uchi can stop him, Ryo whirls around. Then it's just the three of them. In that room, in on that floor, in that entire hotel.
Uchi is almost laughing. "You always get to be together."
"Half the time when I call you, you're too busy to hang out anyway, ; what do you care?" Ryo says, even waves his hand a little as if this isn't a big deal at all.
"I am busy," Uchi says, his voice escalating. "With other things. My life is different than this." Uchi waves his hand the same way as Ryo.
"Oy," Ohkura says. "I'm leaving."
"It's ok," Uchi says. "I'll go."
Ryo sits, torn between asking him to come back and watching him leave. He says nothing while Uchi pulls his bag over his shoulder and still doesn't speak when Uchi puts his shoes on in the doorway.
It's Ohkura who speaks.
"Stay," Ohkura says. Just one simple word that pierces the uncomfortable silence so effectively. Ohkura opens the door and is gone before Uchi's finished putting on his other shoe.
Ryo watches him leave, watches Uchi's face fall, watches everything break right in front of him.
"Don't go," Ryo says. "I know you're going to but just... for a minute..."
"I'm really mad at you," Uchi says.
Ryo wants to tell him that this was all Uchi's idea in the first place, because that's where the blame should lie. Uchi has to know that. They don't say anything for what feels like forever.
Ryo finds himself unable to speak in anything but the physical, so he moves closer to Uchi and touches his arm. He isn't going to apologize because there isn't a damn thing to apologize for. Then Uchi starts shaking.
"If you start crying, I am throwing you out," Ryo says.
Uchi blinks a couple of times. Surprising Ryo and even himself, he starts to laugh. And Ryo can't help but join him.
They laugh together and Ryo's arm wraps all the way around Uchi's body. Uchi holds onto Ryo's forearm and has to struggle to catch his breath and then Ryo feels like everything is such a huge distance away. What does anything matter if he can laugh with Uchi like this?
There is an apology somewhere, but no one says it out loud. Uchi speaks in the physical as he lies down on his back and pulls Ryo with him and the kiss is soft, gentle and just on the edges of friendship.
"You can tell me if you're mad," Ryo whispers.
Uchi nearly smirks, but his heart isn't in it. "I'll remember that," he says.
---
No one talks to Ohkura when he leaves the room, and the hallway is suspiciously empty. Yoko isn't asking for a game of Monster Hunter, Subaru isn't blasting music in his room, Yasu isn't playing his guitar, Hina isn't watching TV, Maru isn't chatting on the phone... it's eerily quiet. So much so that Ohkura almost wants to yell just to break the silence, but that would be a little odd, so he just wanders back to his own room and shuts the door behind him.
What happened with Ryo was all action because bringing thought into it would have unraveled everything. That's how he feels, sitting on the edge of his bed, just wondering how much Uchi had to do with this and thinking about how angry and small Uchi looked back in Ryo's room.
Ohkura turns on the TV and leaves it on the first channel that isn't playing something obnoxious.
It's all so troublesome that he isn't going to bother with it. Uchi can be mad all he wants and Ohkura won't stand in his path. It's not about giving up or backing down, it's about not wanting to be wrapped up in any of this in the first place.
It felt simple in the dressing room with Ryo. It felt like he'd been waiting or Ryo had been waiting, and the timing wasn't right until just then and then it was perfect. He thinks about the way Ryo felt in his hands and how much he wanted him.
He thinks that he can hear Uchi shouting in the other room. Then he hears a door close.
This is between them, and it isn't Ohkura's fault, but if he's involved in something that causes this kind of a rift...
Three knocks on his door.
"Oh," he says, when he answers and it's Yoko.
"Glad to see you, too," Yoko says. "Where is everyone?"
Ohkura shrugs. Too tired with everything to be mad at Yoko. "Up for a game?" he asks.
Yoko snorts. "Obviously."
---
It sounds like they're still talking. Ohkura hears muted voice through the door and it sounds like Uchi is saying Ryo's name.
When Ohkura pushes open the door, Uchi is, indeed, saying Ryo's name. But he's on his back and Ryo is straddling him and Ryo's name is like air on his lips.
They both stop and look up at Ohkura, Ryo with a handful of Uchi's shirt in his hand and Uchi's tongue peeking out from between his lips.
"I'm just here to get... something..." Ohkura moves more quickly than Ryo has ever seen, then rushes back to the door like a dart. But he stops, with his fingers on the door handle.
"So," Ohkura says, then pauses, wondering if he should ask or if it's just going to dig him in even deeper. But he cares too much not to. "Are you guys okay?" he asks, quietly.
"I'm sorry," Uchi says. Then when Ohkura and Ryo can do nothing but stare at him he raises an eyebrow and says, "What?"
---
Yoko has to play his game alone, sadly, as his attempts to rope Hina into it are unsuccessful that day. Ryo and Ohkura, he thought he could always depend on. Traitors, he thinks, punching the buttons a little more aggressively than necessary.
Ryo's door remains closed until an hour before the show, and if anyone notices the bite marks on Ryo's shoulder, no one says anything. If anyone notices that Ohkura's hair is out of place or that Uchi's lips lips are swollen, no one says anything.
Uchi says goodbyes, gives seven hugs, cries less than everyone expects, and is gone again.
Ryo doesn't talk to Uchi for nearly a week. Then, one night, when Ryo is staying at Ohkura's apartment, they both get a text message at the same time.
"You said I could tell you if I was mad." It's from Uchi. No emojis just flat text.
Ohkura looks at Ryo as if to say that he isn't answering this one.
"What is it?" Ryo writes back.
They wait and it's several minutes before it buzzes again, this time only on Ryo's phone.
"Just checking," says Uchi's text. "By the way, I'll be in town next week..."
Ryo grins and starts to write back, but a single heart from Uchi appears on his phone before he can start to type his message in.
"I think it's your turn," Ryo says.
Ohkura grins defiantly and shuts his phone all the way off. But, he waits for Ryo, who sends a text back himself, and doesn't ask to read it or even wonder what it says.
