Ben's brothers and sisters swooped through the cave, shreiking and howling.
Ben didn't join them.
Ben had been trying all week long but the little ghost could not say Boo.
"Come on," said Boris. "Tonight is Halloween and you haven't scared anyone yet."
Sadly, Ben flew into the forest, where no one would hear him practice.
Ben tried again. Whooo!
His voice bunced off the tall pine trees.
"Whooo-whoo, yourself," said a high, clear voice. "Owls say Whoo. You're supposed to say Boo."
Ben flew out of the forest and into a meadow where he tried again. Mooo! he bellowed.
"Moo-moo, yourself," said a low, deep voice.
"Cows say Moo. You're supposed to say Boo."
Ben flew and came to a long stone bridge Cooo! He waited.
"Coo-coo, yourself." came a soft, sweet voice.
"Doves say Coo. You're supposed to say Boo."
Ben began to cry.
Suddenly, a brown bat swooped down and landed on his shoulder. "Boo-hoo, boo-hoo," the bat mocked. "What's this-a scary ghost crying on Halloween?"
"Boo-hoo, yourself," Ben mumbled. "Boo-hoo, boo-hoo, boo-Hey! I said Boo!" he shouted.
Boo! Boo! Boo!
That Halloween nigh, Ben's Boo was the scariest of all.
