A recent accusation of being Morrisonesque in my disappointment with _Avatar_ has encouraged me to talk up movies that I see and enjoy, in addition to those I loathe. So here's one

I liked this movie, for most of the reasons you hit upon. Sadly, Netflix sent me a damaged copy, so more than the plot of the movie I remember having to get up and clean the disc several times.
I despise the move towards using film stars as voice "talent." Going to see animated films becomes a crap shoot: are they any good at voice acting? If I really hate that actress, is her grating voice going to disrupt my enjoyment of a movie I might otherwise like?
I saw this in the theater and later picked up a copy for Jordan, and it is one of her go-to movies...in fact, she and Wesley both received plush Insectasauruses in their stocking, and Jordan also received a plush B.O.B.
I didn't have a problem with the voice casting, actually. None of the voices really overshadowed the characters for me with the exceptions of Colbert (and I felt that was deliberate) and Rogan (who was funny enough that I didn't mind). I didn't realize until after seeing it that Derek was Paul Rudd, and since most Americans are used to Hugh Laurie doing an American accent, hearing him speaking with a British one (which I think was a little more "Britted up" than he usually is) would have masked for me that it was him, had I not known about the casting ahead of time.
This was also another one that I saw in 3D. It was cool enough, but didn't add as much by being 3D as Avatar (which pretty much set the new bar) or even Coraline (another one worth checking out, IMO).
