So I took off work Friday to see The Avengers as I have been waiting anxiously for a year for this film and my impressions are under the spoiler cut (DO NOT READ IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS; ALSO SPOILERS FOR OTHER SHOWS!!!):

He did a really good job of building the team together while still having the tension of macho men each trying to outdo each other; I was really pleased with how he handled Natasha, avoiding the "Token Girl" potential, along with the "eyecandy" option.

:D It was fabulous and I loved every minute of this.

I saw that an realized that it could have been (and probably was) in a comic somewhere

Yup! I remember seeing that in an issue and wondering if Whedon would work it in. I fangirled all over that tiny little moment.
