 My morning TV began with a PBS interview with Mat Johnson on Writing Out Loud about his book, IncogNegro.
It brought to my mind some of my early childhood experiences with racism. I decided to share some of them here, partly in the interest of detailing "The Story of My Life" and maybe partly to illustrate how it was back then, when racists were

We went on vacation when my daughters were very young - we went to the pool where there was a black family also on vacation. My daughter, who was very outgoing, went right up to the girl who was in the pool with her and said - you've got a great tan, to which the girl replied, I'm not tan, I'm black. They were both about 5 and they went on to play together for a while - I thought it was kind of funny
