I agree completely with the idea...however, people are also cowards on a grander scale. One person alone can do a great many good and terrible things...just as the gunman did....but together, people tend to get mass hysteria, panic and generally become dumb animals. They won't stick up for themselves because it's easier to run or hide and hope the predator doesn't come for them next than it is to stand up and fight.

I'm not sure what I would do if I was in that situation...however, thinking rationally right now, I would hide, and if the possibility arose where I had the chance to do something, I probably would. It really depends.

Folks at VT didn't really know what was going on until the gunman came to their class and dorm doors. There was no warning, no chance to get away, no opportunity to gang up on him in any way. You hear the shots and you hit the deck...and then you hope.
