A/N: Akanishi Jin’s POV. So basically, the scenes happened when he was still alive. Again, thoughts are italicized.

Chapter 3

“Hey, Ueda-san.” I greeted the cheerful caretaker of the pet shop once he opened the door for me.

“Welcome, your highness.” He bowed before me.

“Ah, c’mon. I’m no prince.” I smiled at him.

“I’m sorry. You just have that air about you.” He apologized. “You came to pick up the usual food?”

“Actually, I came for another pet. If possible, something different.” I answered, still not facing him.

“Anou, excuse me, I know it’s not my business but....” He said, I think he’s hesitating if he’ll ask me something or not. “Didn’t you promise your wife that you’d hold off on getting any more pets?” Well, he finally decided to ask it.

“Actually, it just so happens.... that she left me.” I turned to him smiling. My mind wandering on what happened a few days ago....

-Flashback-

“JIN!!” I heard my wife, Reiko, screaming while walking towards me. She’s carrying a plastic full of rats. “How many times do I have to tell you?! Don’t put any food for your pets in the refrigerator!” She looked really mad, as in really really mad. Okay, she’s fuming mad. I think she wants to swallow me whole.

“It’s not like it’s unsanitary or anything…” I defended while holding my pet python.

“THAT’S NOT THE POINT!!” she yelled at me. “I can’t take it anymore! You just sit around all day! When was your last job? You can’t live off your past fame!” Her face was soooo red due to anger, and veins were visible along her neck and forehead. “You should just marry one of your pet snakes or turtles!” That was the last thing I heard from her before the loud banging of the door.

“So there you go. Now my pets have free rein of the house....” I told him.

“Your highness....” He looked at me. I saw astonishment in his eyes. “Given your new situation.... I think I have the perfect addition to your household.”

I arched an eyebrow.

“This way please....” He told me and we started walking. We walked straight to the backdoor and turned left.

We continued walking along the dark hallway. We stopped in front of a huge door. He slowly opened the door for me.

“Please come in.” he said.

I came in first. It was dark, once my eyes were used to the dark, I saw something that shocked me to death.

Minutes later....

“So, what do you think?” I heard him say but my eyes were focused on that something in front of me. “Your highness....” He called. Trying to get my attention.

I finally turned to him.

“What...? Is this a joke?” I asked him, slightly annoyed. ‘I can’t believe this guy!’ “Just because my wife left me doesn’t mean....” I looked to that something again.

There was that something.... A human.... A woman.... A very beautiful woman.... Sitting elegantly at the only chair in the room.

She has a very long brown hair, tied neatly in a ponytail. Perfectly shaped eyebrows. A bit crooked nose. And a pouty luscious pink lips. With all those combined equals to a very lovely face. ‘If only I could see her eyes.’ I told myself. I’m somewhat disappointed. ‘What’s with the blindfold?’

I was curious. But still, I continued admiring the superb beauty in front of me. Searching for more adjectives to describe her prettiness. And trying to invent a new word that would accolade her stunning features.

Her slender figure complimented her princess outfit. Her creamy neck adorned with a pearl necklace. Her skin was pale. She seemed like a translucent fairy in the moonlight. I was really captivated with her gorgeousness. Okay, too much adjectives. ‘I hope I’m not drooling.’ I joked myself.

I sighed. ‘I have to break free from this unending trance.’ Oh boy! Now I felt like a poet.

“Excuse me, your highness....” Ueda-san called me.

I finally broke free from my unending trance. I’m annoyed now, he disturbed my moment.

He walked towards the gorgeous woman. I blinked. ‘I think I already used that adjective.’

“Please look carefully.” I walked near them. He unzipped the zipper of the dress. “This is a turtle.”

I was astonished.

“It’s a special type of turtle.” He explained. “And its albino shell with an exquisite design. It’s really a one of a kind creation”

“What?! Am I dreaming?” I finally found my voice. I really can’t believe this guy.

“Why don’t you find out by touching her shell?” he asked me.

I gulped. My trembling hands went to her back. ‘Ah.... I can feel it. Her unique shell....’ “What’s with the blindfold? I’d like to see her eyes.”

“According to legend, this particular species.... was kept as a murder weapon.” He stated.

“Murder? What? Are they poisonous?” I asked. ‘How could such a beauty be a murder weapon?’

“Perhaps ‘enchanting’ would be more accurate....” he answered. “They’d lure their enemy with their enticing appearance.... And as soon as they were close enough.... They’d take off their mask and stare at their enemy.”

“And those who met her gaze would be turned to stone....” he continued. “Yes, like the creature that appears in Greek mythology.... like Medusa.”
