Quiet Moments on the Road

Thread here.

"There were failed summonings and bloodthirsty zombies, a dead god and a restless dead carriage driver but there are some quiet moments that I liked a whole lot this game."

That is some good stuff. I think there was a trend for a while in Story Games circles for every scene to be about the face-stabbing. I really like the move we are seeing in a lot of people to respect the lull as part of the game - with more love for those quiet codas that give us time to get to know the characters better.

Thanks for reading.

I'm not sure the face-stabbing emo-porn is as prevalent as Story Games would have us believe but has more to do with the posting tendencies of the forum than the actual play.

It is more exciting to write a post about how, "my character stabbed his mom in the FACE!" than it is to try to communicate why, "there was this quiet moment between the squire and his horse and it was really moving and vivid."

But I could be wrong.

Sammesh is not much of a face-stabbing kinda-guy, I think.

No, that does make sense. Maybe it's a little of both? I think face-stabbery *was* big for a while. Not so much now, but it still makes the front pages as you say.

Maybe it's harder to write those "quiet moment" posts because they're so context sensitive and take longer to set up in-game? So often I want to tell someone about a subtle but cool gaming moment and, after a fumbling attempt to explain it briefly and cutting out all the build up, just end up saying "Well, you had to be there."
