It is nice to be home again, back in the gym four days a week. I have had a whole lot of trouble getting my feet under me and had a few nights of paralyzing funk but I think I'm set now.

Reading: I am finishing Bloodstained Stars, which is lovely and then I am launching back into a book about Genghis Khan as inspiration for the BW game with Storn ( Read more... )

READING: With Great Power... with a red pen in hand. Why would I possibly be doing that?

PLANNING: A couple kid-free days with the wife, he said with a prolonged sigh of relief.

WEARING: Brown pants and a rumpled blue-striped shirt

WRITING: (at work) Possible workflows for creating ePub files; (at home) a few sketchy ideas for an RPG focused on the sweep of history.

"Driven by a need to understand the geothermal forces that took the lives of his parents, brilliant vulcanologist Lance Laraby was caught in an experiment gone awry. His own body incinerated, he found himself composed of molten rock. Now he uses his amazing powers to protect the world from the invading hordes of Salamanders rising from Earth's mantle. He still seeks to find a way to become human once more--how can he have a normal life when his skin is 2000 degrees?"

Have you been reading my hard drive again, Bret?

Reading: Hawksmoor, by Peter Ackroyd. Psychogeography, crypto-Satantist architects, and a murder mystery spanning hundreds of years. Hard to describe, entrancing to read.

Planning: Sunday night game with old friends. Working on my art space in the garage. Something with the family on Monday.

Wearing: Office casual, same as every weekday.

Art: Finish assembling new sketchbook. More drawing. Other art stuff. My project list is getting *way* too long.

Bloodstained Stars is that lovely book for Burning Empires, right?

Reading: It's been a good week for reading. I finished Jo Walton's Lifelode, a very odd book combining the best elements of domestic fantasy with a science fiction methodology. (Translation: There are clear rules about how magic works and what's going on, even though most of the characters don't get them, and the relationships between people are crucial.) Then, I read Seanan McGuire's Rosemary and Rue, which is urban fantasy, blending a lot of solid tropes into something complex enough I'll have to do a review about it. Worth checking out for anyone wanting to play Warlock Corner.

Planning: Eating. Am hungry. Hosting Games-Club-in-Exile tonight. Seeing what I can do to minimize the bureaucratic mess that my father will leave when he dies, as the medical end of things is out of my hands now. Playing Call of Cthulhu tomorrow evening and meeting a friend from out of town on Saturday. Oh, and deciding what to read next ( ... )
