I should add that I'm aware that the substance is kin, but the style was very different. Our setting was less posthuman technology-dominated sci-fi, more economically and politically complicated military sci-fi. Still, the two settings could be cousins.

There's a LOT of radiation around Jupiter and Saturn. Unless we have cheap shielding, or somehow immunize ourselves, we'll have to stick to the outer moons. The two exceptions are Callisto (Jupiter) and Titan (Saturn). http://www.colonyworlds.com/2008/03/radiation-safe-worlds.html
