they'll have a lot easier time living on half a million dollars when their property values have fallen by 90% because no one can afford them and half are vacant. of course, by that time 500K might only buy a honda accord and a few loaves of bread after inflation, so maybe they'll still be up the creek.

Wow. As someone trying to live in THE SAME TOWN on less than 20K pre-tax (ie, 4% of the 500K budget), I had little sympathy to begin with, and it evaporated when "necessities" like ski trips and nannies were included.

you forget that it's not about living or surviving - it's about maintaining the same lifestyle they've always had w/o feeling the economic crunch they all helped create. :)

don't you remember? the rich are imune to having to feel the pain of no work, rising inflation, unstable investments, the loss of retirement plans, the rising cost of gas and energy, and failure of the government to protect its citizens from economic downturn.

and they MUST feel the pain of "keeping up with the jones". because we all know that when your husband keeps his job because the gov needs his company, you have nothing to worry about and can continue to maintain your life of luxury w/o cutting back or developing a rational budget for survival.
