yay reading, and yay public school! When i was in first grade i was really behind - probably having to do with the ESL parents not really knowing good strategies for helping me. I started out in the remedial group and by the end of the year was at the 4th grade level. I hope she has teachers that recognize her skills and push her hard. :)
Reading is usually one of those areas that they advance the kids as much as they can - at least in my experiences. Hannah was an early reader and still continues to score very high/advanced on standard tests. Maybe ask ahead of time what their policies/programs are so you'll know if she'll get enough or if you'll need to fill in some other way. Being a good reader is a good thing - it's so helpful!
HI PUNK!! :P
My yet to be born baby will be class of 2030. TWENTY THIRTY!! wth.
Absolutely, stimulation is good, and kids need some "push" to achieve. But as a primary school teacher, I also think there's value in letting kindergarten be a fun year when they learn to be in school and learn as much as they can. The beautiful thing is that young kids are natural learners -- they want to do it!
So, as much as anything else, enjoy Punk's wonderful year in kindergarten! I hope it's great!
