"Max, what are you doing?" Jude laughed as his boyfriend snuck up behind him, placing his hands over Jude's eyes and cutting off his vision. "You know I don't like not being able to see. It freaks me out," he added, feeling uneasy even with Max right behind him.
"Why are you so freaked by having your sight cut off?" Max inquired, sounding curious. "You know I'm not going to hurt you, Jude. It's not like you can't feel safe with me, even if you can't see what's going on around you. Can't you have some faith in me."
"I do!" Jude protested, shaking his head. "It's just that .... not being able to see scares the hell out of me. I guess it's because I grew up always feeling that someone could be lurking just around the corner to stab me in the back. Figuratively, not literally."
Though sometimes he'd thought that in the literal sense, Jude told himself, feeling grim. He and his mother hadn't exactly lived in a good part of Liverpool; even though she felt safe there, she was used to it. He, however, had always felt very much out of place.
"Sometimes you've just got to have blind faith in the person you're with," Max told him, slipping his arms around Jude's waist and pulling his boyfriend back against him. "You usually do with me, so that's why I'm wondering about this fear of not being able to see everything all the time."
Jude nodded slowly, swallowing hard. He had an idea for something -- though he wasn't sure that he could cope well with it if Max decided to put that idea into motion. Still, it might be interesting to try, just to see what his own reaction would be.
"Come on," he told his boyfriend, taking Max's hand and leading the way to their bedroom. "I've got an idea that I want to try. It might not work, but I want to see if it will. Maybe it'll help me get over my fear of being kept in the dark."
Max followed him, a curious expression on his features when Jude turned to look at him. Jude smiled at his boyfriend before he backed away a few steps, lifting his t-shirt over his head and pulling it off, then tossing it aside and starting to work on the buckle of his belt.
He knew that Max enjoyed watching him get naked, and he usually tried to give his boyfriend a show; but this time, he had something else in mind, and he undressed quickly. Taking a deep breath, he placed his hands on his hips, wondering how to put this so it didn't sound crazy.
"I want you to blindfold me while we make love," he told Max, feeling his heart thump almost painfully against the wall of his chest as he spoke. "It might be a little scary for me at first, but I think that's the best way to get myself past my fear of darkness."
Max nodded, a smile starting to spread across his features. "You've got it, babe," he said softly, moving forward to pull Jude into his arms. "Don't worry. I'll take it slow, and I promise I won't do anything that might freak you out. We'll get you over this."
Jude wasn't so sure, but this had been his own idea, after all -- he had to follow through. He disentangled himself from Max's embrace, moving towards the bed and looking around for something that they could use as a blindfold.
Max quickly stripped his own clothes off, then went to the bureau and opened the top drawer, rummaging around for something. When he'd found what he was looking for, he turned to Jude, holding out a black silk scarf, a roguish smile on his face.
"I'd almost forgotten about this," he said, raising an eyebrow. "It was something I got when I was going through a 'respectable' phase. I thought it would look cool, but I hardly ever wore it. I think it'd make a pretty good blindfold, don't you?"
Jude nodded, unable to speak for a few moments. He looked up at Max mutely as the other man slowly approached the bed and sat down, feeling as though his stomach was tied in knots. He didn't know what to say -- or how to start this.
"Don't be scared, babe." Max's voice was soft and loving; he leaned forward and brushed a gentle kiss over Jude's parted lips, obviously trying to make him relax. "It's not going to hurt, y'know. I'm not going to do anything freaky to you. The only difference is the blindfold."
"I-I think I'm ready," Jude whispered, his voice shaky. Why was he so afraid of this? He trusted Max, in every possible way. He knew that this man wouldn't do anything to cause him pain; Max would die before he'd let Jude come to any harm.
His muscles tensed as Max turned him around and tied the black silk over his eyes, careful not to catch his hair in the knot at the back of his head. He could feel his boyfriend's arms around him, Max's soft lips on his throat, trailing kisses of fire over his shoulder.
Jude could hear the sound of Max fumbling in the drawer of the table by their bed, obviously searching for the lube they kept there. He tried to make himself relax, knowing what was coming next. Max was going to make love to him; this was going to feel wonderful, as it always did.
He gasped when Max's fingers entered him; his muscles tensed, then relaxed as the other man slowly scissored his fingers, stretching and preparing him. Jude tried to relax, to let himself sink into the familiar pleasure that Max's lovemaking always gave him.
"It's okay, babe." Max's voice was soft in his ear, his lover's breath warm on his skin. "Blind faith, Jude. It's not going to hurt, sweetheart. Trust me." His voice was almost hypnotic; that deep, husky sound felt like a lifeline to Jude in the surrounding darkness.
When Max's fingers were replaced by the thickness of his cock, Jude cried out his lover's name, pushing his hips back into the thrust. There was a sudden, sharp arc of pleasure through his body, a white heat that seemed to race down his spine.
Max's arms wrapped around his waist from behind, pulling Jude closer to him as he thrust in deeper. Jude gasped out his lover's name, one hand reaching out in front of him as though he was searching for something to hold on to.
His agitation calmed when Max's hand found his, entwining their fingers together. One arm was still around Jude's waist, holding him; their bodies seemed melded together, two into one, lifted to heights that Jude had never reached with anyone but this man.
It felt as though he was lifted into the heavens, far above the ground -- then, with a dizzying rush, the wave of his climax broke over him and he was falling, falling at a rate of speed that made him cry out and clutch Max's hand until his knuckles were white.
Jude sagged back against Max, panting, trying to catch his breath. He'd fallen into darkness, but this dark void didn't feel like a cold, lonely place. It felt warm, comforting, somewhere that he could snuggle into and hide away in safety, wrapped in his lover's arms.
Max removed the blindfold from Jude's eyes, making the other young man blink as the daylight assaulted his vision. He turned his head slightly to meet Max's lips, their kiss soft and gentle, tasting of a passion and love that he'd never found with anyone else.
Yes, he had a blind faith in Max. Why else would he have suggested that his boyfriend do something that had always terrified him? His faith in the man he loved could override everything else -- even is fear of having darkness enclose him.
"Are you okay, babe?" Max whispered, raising a hand to caress the line of Jude's jaw. "I didn't mean for it to go so fast, but I couldn't hold back. I wanted you too much. But you seemed like you were okay with it, so I didn't try to stop myself."
"You didn't have to," Jude told him, his voice soft. "I wasn't scared, Max. At first, it was kind of weird not being able to see -- but when you were holding my hand, I knew that there was nothing to be afraid of. Not the dark, not falling, not .... anything. I wasn't scared at all."
"That's what blind faith in somebody can do for you, sweetheart," Max told him, brushing another soft kiss against Jude's cheek. "I've got that kind of faith in you, too. One of these days, I'm going to prove it to you. Maybe that day will be sooner than you think."
"Whenever it comes, I'll be ready for it," Jude told him, sinking back into his lover's arms. His blind faith in Max had paid off -- and he was sure that from now on, the prospect of being lost in the darkness wouldn't scare him nearly as much as it always had before.
