Your bridge piece for some reason made me think of the scene from the Woody Allen movie (can't remember which one) where Woody listens as (I think) his girl friend's brother talks about a fantasy of his to commit suicide by ramming his car into some oncoming car in the dead of night ... and, of course, the brother is the one driving Woody home at the end of the night.
The other thing that flashed through my twisted mind was "bridge? what country am I driving in? what side of the road should I be on?"
Don't ask. I just let these thoughts flow in and flow out.

I remember the scene from the movie ("Annie Hall" wasn't it?) and the dead-to-the-world voice the brother used. Eerie and funny at the same time.
