I went to bed late again last night (the joys of prednisone), and got up extra early this morning - 5:45!!!! J had his tenth grade retreat and it's a 3-hour bus ride away, so they wanted the kids at school at 7:30 a.m. Cruel and unusual punishment, if you ask me

I LOVE Bird by Bird. I like most of her non-fiction, but I can't stand her fiction. You should try Operating Instructions, too.

I agree - I liked Operating Instructions a lot. I also found Traveling Mercies interesting. I'm not crazy about her novels. There's something about her attitude that I find off-putting, and it comes through in a lot of her books. I have to say, though, that I am loving Bird by Bird!

I also liked Operating Instructions. I have a thing for parenting memoirs. I've never read any of her novels either, but I will keep an eye out for Bird by Bird at the library.
