They are piggy banks... you put a coin in, push the button and there's an action that puts the coin the bank. In this case it looks like the button is by the gentleman's foot. The tree is the bank and the hole is where the coin goes in.
Mine is a dentist working on someone in a chair, a banker who drops the coin into a bag and a dog that when you pull its tail (who doesn't like to pull a dog's tail?) it opens it mouth and the coin goes in.
