questionnaires are fun and educational

emily forwarded me this survey from scott, the awesome TA. i'm not in that class but i liked the questions a lot:

1. What's your full name, and what would you like us to call you? What
do people call you that you wish they didn't?

emily stokely wells, esquire. call me emily or em. don't call me red unless i really like you. people call me "boxx" because i "rescued" a big cardboard box from the middle of the road across from my dorm. only sonia hazarika is allowed to call me "firecrotch".

2. What would your mascot be? What would it look like?

his name is "pengie", he's a construction paper black and white penguin with a sheriff badge. i got him from a christian club benefit i attended (to support a friend, not because i'm christian). he protects me from evil and i once had a nightmare someone crumpled him up. it was upsetting.

3. How do you feel about competitive eating? What competitive eating
contest would you enter if you were forced to do so?

makes me sick just thinking about it, but if that's your talent i think it should be shared with the world. some people just really like hot dogs. no one can eat just 27 hot dogs.

4. What is the most important idea in the world?

compassion and love, not sure the second one exists yet.

5. Name four websites you check almost every time you go online.

a. uci e-mail to check how many new e-mails i've gotten from barry siegel, but not to read them right away
b. dictionary.com to look up english words i should know by now
c. wordreference.com to look up french words i should know by now
d. imdb.com to find out why that actor looks so familiar

6. What do you think'll kill you? What steps are you taking to thwart it?

i like to j-walk, so probably that. i've stopped doing that in irvine because i got a ticket for it. but when i went to new york, i j-walked excessively. i try to remember to always look both ways before crossing.

7. What do you watch on television when you're not busy preparing for
LJ20? What are your favorite shows that are no longer on the air?

"sex and the city", vh1's "best week ever", and "daily show" but i can't figure out what kind of crazy time zone our cable comes from. and music videos, i love music videos.

8. Favorite music? Genre? Band? Artist? Movement? Period?

this generation of musicals (which started with my love affair with "rent"), ben folds, kweller, and lee (the bens), bright eyes, avril lavigne, pete yorn, rilo kiley, and matt caplan.

9. What were you doing immediately before you began filling out this
questionnaire? What will you be doing when you're finished?

i was figuring out what to wear on my adventure to the temecula cowboy bar/dance club this saturday. before that i was eating chipotle and baskin robbins. i might do some french homework after this, but let's not hold our breathe.

10. What do you tell people when you want to make a good impression?
Conversely, what do you tell people when you wish they'd leave you alone
already?

a. i'm a literary journalism major (it sounds fancy), i use big words, i make something up
b. i'm entirely too polite sometimes, so usually just that i have to go/exist somewhere else

11. What did you want to be when you grew up when you were younger? What
are the odds you'll end up being that? What do you want to be when you
grow up now?

a. con artist (i saw "dirty rotten scoundrels" when i was like 5 and loved it or a ballerina. my dad said "why not both?"
b. i'm not smooth, agile, graceful, or charming so i'm thinking pretty slim
c. employed, healthy, and not a crazy cat lady spinster

12. Name three things you're almost 100% certain nobody'd ever guess about
you. Name three things you're almost 100% certain everybody thinks about
you.

no one guesses: a. i was born in illinois b. i contain barely any irish blood c. i am 20 years old, and not 14

everyone thinks: a. i'm crazy b. i'm smart c. i'm crazy

13. Lightning round! What are the first three words that come to your mind
when I say:
a. Charles Darwin: 9th, grade, biology
b. Charles in Charge: awesome, theme, song
c. Charlie Chaplin: can't, spell, moustache
d. Charlize Theron: blonde, mini, cooper
e. Charlton Heston: bowling, for, columbine
f. Charles Dickens: best, of, times
g. Charlie Parker: who, the, fuck
h. Charlie Musselwhite: i, feel, ignorant
i. Charlie: brown, Vietnam, chocolate?

14. Are you now, or have you ever been, a member of the Communist Party?

yes i'm part russian and no, not that i know of. i'm a democrat though, and some people think it's roughly the same.

15. What are your favorite movies? Do you have a favorite director or
writer? What about a favorite actor or actress? Surely you have a few of
those.

finding nemo, better off dead, say anything, reality bites, empire records, the jerk, beautiful girls, good will hunting, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, garden state (i'm just listing the movies i own). i like john and joan cusack and natalie portman. oh and the stuff my roommate acted in when she was like five.

16. Identify two gaping holes in your education.

algebra and computer abilities. also possibly social skills. and sharing.

17. What kind of car do you drive? Do you care about it more or less than
you imagine you'll care about the welfare of your future children?

vw passat. daddy bought it for me. i drive it but it's not "mine". i really liked my old '93 volvo that crapped out on me. but the passat is a very nice car. i'm not really into cars.

18. Do you speak any languages other than English? If you do, do you
speak it fluently or "fluently enough to keep my GPA afloat"?

french fluently enough to fake it when i need to

19. How do you feel about lettuce? Why? Explain.

salad with fattening dressing: good. lettuce on/in burgers, tacos, burritos, or crepes: very bad. it doesn't belong there and it just gets all yucky.

20. What magazines do you read on a regular basis? Do you subscribe to
them, buy them, or just read them while some overworked cashier rings up
your groceries?

"ebony"...just kidding. "spin", "rolling stone", and those giant fashion magazines for the pictures

21. Who are your favorite authors? What are your favorite novels?

thomas pynchon's "crying of lot 49", "the stranger" by camus

22. Why are you majoring in LJ?

because it's awesome! and also i was struggling as an english major. it's interesting and i think i want to go into the field of journalism. i also think it's easier/more beneficial to major in something so specific rather than "english" which requires one to master such a broad range of topics.
