Blood & Chocolate

Beware, this entire post is a spoiler for Blood and Chocolate, both the movie and the book.

You know how I thought that Blood and Chocolate might be a good movie if I looked at it from the perspective of an entirely original movie? I was so wrong.

First of all, it is God awful. I spent $9 on my ticket and we drove into Rochester, so calculate the cost of gas into the waste of time that this film was.

I'll start by saying that yes, Gabriel was her uncle. He was Rafe's father. And no, Rafe was not screwing Astrid; she was his mother. Esme died in the first minute, along with Vivian's siblings and father.

On the note of her family, her father wasn't the pack leader. He took his family and moved away to Colorado, where hunters followed Vivian's tracks back to the house and set them on fire.

The reason they were in Romania was plausible (Vivan moved back to live with Astrid). I could have accepted this with no qualms. Hell, I even started off the movie optimistically because the first third was good. Then it went all wrong. Aidan is hiding in Europe because he assulted his father, who'd threatened to kill him. Rafe tries to scare Aidan away, but things go wrong and Aidan kills Rafe and then, after being hunted by the entire pack and escaping, Aidan become Rambo. (Furthermore, Gabriel was some sort of Godfather figure, complete with a no-drugs policy. )

It ends with Vivian shooting Gabriel because Aidan tells her to, and then after blowing up Gabe's alcohol factory, she and Aidan steal Gabe's sexy car and drive off to freakin' Paris.

All of this doesn't even cover the rest of the suck this movie has to offer.

In short, if you read the book and loved it, don't go see this movie. If you haven't read the book, things wil confuse you and you'll be left with the vague sense of being cheated.

I saw it with my friend Katie, who hasn't read the book, but I did give her the lowdown. She hated it. She loved Gabe, which is understandable because while the writers try to make him into the bad guy they fail miserably. Instead Vivian comes off looking like a brat who resents everything about being a werewolf, and Aidan is the hero who saves the day.

That's all I'm going to say on it, because just thinking about it makes me angry. The best thing about it was the soundtrack, and I can get European trance off limewire.
