yeah, IBM machines do look pretty solid.

I've been naysaying the whole refurbished thing so far, nbbut if I can get a good warranty on refurbished, that might be the way to go.

The old thinkpads looked as ugly as hell (to my eyes at least :)) but seemed to be virtually indestructable! I used to have to support a couple owned by academics who had to run some ugly ugly linux distro because they didn't want to use what all us other linux geeks were using.

Ah the good old days when hardware support for linux could mean rolling your own kernel :)
